2013 Decisions

I have read that NYU-Tisch will send out decisions via email to those who auditioned on the last Friday of the month. That would be on March 29. Does anyone know if this is accurate? I have also heard it will be at 1PM, and assume that is east coast time. Anyone know more?

There were plenty of rumors about dates and times swirling about last year most of which were not true. Many people were calling admissions and being told various things which also turned out not to be entirely true. Especially strong was the rumor about the last Friday in March but it turned out they came on Thursday. Let me tell you exactly what happened last year:

shortly before 4 PM EST on Thursday 3/29/12 people started to be able to view their admissions decisions in Albert (the online access). This was despite admissions insistance that the first indication would be an email and that you would not know from checking albert.

about 50 minutes later the acceptance emails came out. I would assume rejections were also sent as well but I don’t know this first hand.

Studio placement emails were sent out later than expected and later than they were the year before on 4/13/12 likely after 5 PM EST but the exact time I do not know because I don’t have the header of the email any longer. But I recall it was in the afternoon/evening.

Doesn’t mean any of this will hold true for this year but to save you the work in piecing it together by looking through old threads, this is exactly what happened last year for sure because I still have the emails with the dates and time stamps to refer to. You should assume that the results will come out when they come out but sure… keep an eye on Albert as you close in on the end of the month. Seems that the decisions tend to come out before 4/1.

Good luck!

^^^Thanks for this info. I wish they could get offers out earlier. But alas, that is not to be. Not only is it hard to wait - but it would be nice if for those who have multiple offers, they could know what is fully on their plate to be able to throw some back into the pool, so to speak. Waiting continuing…

Do they still do the Saturday/Sunday in the Square event? For those invited to that, it means you’re accepted. In years past, those came out mid-March, if I recall, so that people could make their travel plans, if necessary.

@alwaysamom they held it last year but we didn’t get the invitation to it until after the acceptance was in hand so there was no early tip off. From the west coast meant oh… hey there is something you’re invited to attend and um… it’s next weekend or some sort of equally short leash.

@prntosome I feel your pain. It won’t come earlier than very close to the end of the month though. There are some special scholarship winners that might hear mid-month from NYU (my daughter’s roommate heard early last year but she was an MLK award winner and in Stern) but that’s about it and I don’t know if it applies to Tisch’s audition programs. It’s nice of you to think about others and throwing some back into the pool but the reality of the waitlist is that most schools won’t do anything with their waitlists (if they intend to at all) until after 5/1 so you really aren’t holding anyone else up. NYU is great place to study theatre for lots of obvious reasons. I hope it works out for you if that is your heart’s desire. Good luck!!

Halflokum- can you tell me anything about NYU’s listing under the application status? We could see my D’s application status change for Ithaca for example, from “what we still need” to “what we have” - and the last item was her audition , of course. Once the audition moved over to “what we have” we knew a decision had been made. Albert (for NYU) still shows her as needing an audition. Does NYU work somewhat the same? It scares me to see that audition box unchecked, as if she didn’t do it. I’m sure I’m obsessing but not sure if she should contact them or not.

It never hurts to call Admissions yourself and insure that they have her audition. Why worry?

I do actually know the answer to this question. Admissions does not actively use the “what we have/what we need at NYU” for the auditions. Right up until the bitter end it looked like my daughter still needed to audition and it also looked like they didn’t have her recommendations either which they had had since October (though I think that eventually changed I’m not positive but I know for sure the audition thing never did). I did ask my daughter to call about it because it made me nervous too but she was told not to worry, they have everything they just don’t use (especially the audition) feature for tracking.

I will tell you that “Albert” is very different from what you see at Ithaca. There are no “tells” in Albert. So don’t drive yourself nuts with the stuff in the regular NYU thread where there is all this buzz about change in financial aid status etc. It means nothing. Ithaca is an open book… too much so if you ask me. Last year I recognized 5 kids whose usernames in (whatever the name of their system was) made it easy to tell who they are. And as one by one they suddenly disappeared, I knew they had been rejected. I felt like I shouldn’t have seen that. Anyway, that’s how they do it there.

Hope this helps. Fingers crossed!

Correction, there is one tell in Albert which might have relevance for this year’s applicants. If you said you will be willing to be considered for LSP and your major changes from “Tisch/Drama” (or whatever the exact wording is) to Global Studies Program or Liberal Studies Program, you can tell from that you are out as far as Tisch goes. In prior years Tisch applicants could not select an alternative like LSP. If you didn’t get into Tisch, you were out entirely. But if I’m not mistaken that has changed now and Tisch prospects can select to be considered for LSP if you don’t get into your first choice major. I think you can also just apply directly to LSP as a first choice now too but obviously that wouldn’t pertain to any of you.

has anyone heard from tisch yet regular decision? Also has anyone had their FA status change. Some applicants have had theirs change I was wondering if any tisch applicants had theirs change.

Had not checked that status on Albert before. What has the status changed to?

I called Tisch on another matter a week or two ago and they said they only process financial aid once you get offered admissions and it should follow within two weeks of acceptance. They said they had way too many applications to figure financial aid for everyone who applies.

Though I’m sure they do not process aid for anyone they do not intend to accept, I’m almost positive the actual aid offer (if any) comes with the acceptance. It doesn’t follow two weeks later. That could be part of the reason they take the full time to get the decisions out.

The whole affair with the FA status change (I’ve been following on another thread) is just people taking little meaningless changes way out of proportion. It was released on an NYU official blog that all decisions will be sent out via email on this Friday (as opposed to Monday like they had originally said).

I’ve been saying all along that the FA status change thing is a red herring. But that’s the thing with these threads. Somebody reads it, the next 3 people say “ok thanks” followed by the 4th person jumping in and saying “oh my god my FA status changed” and then nobody reads what was written above it. Same thing happened last year in the UCLA thread with respect to people discovering that they could find out their ID numbers suddenly. It wasn’t sudden. My daughter had her ID months before anyone mentioned it and it was even before she had auditioned so there was no way it was an admissions tell. But no matter how many times I’d say it, with in a few posts, the rumor would take off again.

BTW I did read that NYU admissions blog and its insistence that nothing would be visible online. They said that last year too but it WAS the case that you could see the admissions results online about 50 minutes before any email came out and I can prove it. It’s a small window and it doesn’t matter but just saying, things do not always go down exactly as they say. For all I know it was just an email server delay and they did hit “go” all at once and it should have come together. BUT yes, the FA thing is was and always will be a red herring. I don’t blame admissions for throwing a wet blanket over it and actually making fun of it in their blog especially with respect to the CC posts. And yet it is still continuing and now there is this theory that NYU is covering up because they’ve discovered a mistake. That is particularly funny. This whole thing was discussed last year and probably the year before and the year before… Anyway, the wait is almost over for you. Good luck!

Thank you so much, halfokum. You’ve been a great help to us as we wait, and wait, and wait. And now it is about to be over. I wish the best for all of your who are hoping for NYU - Tisch. I just hope it happens on Friday and we don’t have to wait for Monday (as the website says). Good luck to all!

Some people on the general board have received their decisions by email within the last hour

Some people are getting emails (I haven’t yet), fingers crossed for all of you! Hopefully we’ll laugh about all this CC craziness in class next year

This just out from NYU: “Freshman admission decision emails have started to “hit land” – so to speak. Please understand that we send admission decisions in waves to ensure that our servers will deliver all emails effectively without further delays. This means that it will be impossible to predict exactly when and in what order students from around the world will receive their admission decisions. We expect that all decisions should be received by Monday morning, April 1 (Eastern Standard Time). If you do not receive your admission decision by Monday morning, you can call then (but not before then) to receive your admission decision over the phone.”

Just got my email acceptance to Tisch!! Now for the dreaded studio decision!
