2013 Decisions

Congrats, MToropera and to all who got accepted!

My son just got his email informing him he is on the waitlist. Not sure how to feel. After all this waiting and hitting refresh all day to be asked to wait some more seems like torture. I guess there is still hope, though. Yay?

Hearty congratulations!!!

My D got her acceptance e-mail into Tisch as well!

Thank you congrats to everyone!

Don’t dread the studio decision. There are no bad options if you consider yourself an actor first. There are plenty of actors in other studios that can give the MTs in NSB a run for their money. Congratulations again and all the best as you sort out what happens next!

I got my email today too, and I also have been waitlisted. Feeling mixed emotions right now. I really do hope I can get in off the waitlist. It’s gonna be an agonizing wait from now until May.

My D got her Tish acceptance email today as well. Financial aid only loans and work study. She was also accepted at USC School of Dramatic Arts, BA. She is now debating what will be her best choice ( both equally expensive).

Chairo, I’m in the exact same boat as your daughter! Accepted to USC for a BA, and to Tisch! But it looks like I’m actually getting more financial aid from Tisch than USC, so now I just need to convince my parents to let me go so far away…

Thanks SnoozeButton but I was just told by my daughter that she didnt check the “all studios” box only the mt studio , so hopefully this means she got in for mt!

I got in  Got my email yesterday! And as much as I would love to be in the New Studio, I’m not too confident that I was placed there. That’s okay, I feel priviledged to be accepted into any Tisch studio and I heard that they’re all really amazing  And it’s not like I’d have to stop singing…

Anyone know exactly when/ how we’ll get the studio decision? I haven’t gotten any word about it from NYU

Typically, the studio placement letters come about a week after the admissions decisions. I have no information on this year, but that has been the trend in years past.

How is FA looking for you guys? Its still insanely expensive but I got an $18k scholarship and 3k work study… still better than I thought I’d get!

I didnt hand in something by accident so I’m still waiting, thats good congrats!

Though soozieVT is correct about studio letters normally taking about a week, last year they did not come out until 4/13/2012. I don’t know if that was just a one-off or not but waiting the extra week was painful. So you’re not going nuts, assume 2 weeks and if it comes in earlier, so much the better.

So confused. Is it possible to be accepted by Tisch but waitlisted by NYU? What does this mean?

I’m not entirely sure what you’re asking justdoesntmatter but I’ll take a stab at it. When you apply to Tisch Drama you have the option of saying 1. that you’d ONLY want to be considered for placement into the MT studio (there is only one and it is New Studio on Broadway, (NSB) MT) or 2. that you’d be willing to be considered for ANY of the Tisch studios which include all of the other acting studios as well as NSB’s own acting studio.

When you get your acceptance from Tisch (NYU) you are accepted into Tisch Drama (all students regardless of studio graduate with a BFA in Drama). But the first two years you are assigned a primary training studio and the decision about which studio you are actually placed into doesn’t come until some time after the initial acceptance. You are not waitlisted, you are simply waiting to know what primary studio you’ve been assigned to (unless you said you’d only accept the MT studio. If you get accepted and said you will only take placement in MT, you know you are in the MT studio at time of acceptance.) Make sense? Did I answer your question?

I should also add that new this year is the option to say: If I don’t get accepted into Tisch Drama, I would be willing to be considered for acceptance into other programs within the broader NYU. Some people that are currently on the waiting list for NYU who applied to Tisch could be in that boat. (I would assume their waitlist letter would indicate whether they are waiting for a spot in Tisch or are being considered for something else but I haven’t seen the wording of a waitlist letter to know for sure.) At any rate this is a change from previous years where if you applied to Tisch and didn’t get in, you were out of NYU entirely. Anyway, wanted to throw that in in case that was really what you were asking since as I said, I’m not exactly sure what you were expressing confusion about.

Thanks. A friend from a summer theater program posted on facebook that they got into Tisch, but are waitlisted for NYU. I didn’t know whether to say congrats, sorry, or good luck. Still not sure, but I guess it can’t hurt to say good luck!

I’ve never heard of such a combination. Doesn’t sound right. Other schools may have separate academic vs. Artistic acceptances but NYU does not. (unless something has changed???)

I bet he’s on the waitlist, which sort of means “passed” the Tisch audition? I’m a sophomore and just starting to think about MT in college. I’ve heard amazing things about NYU, but I saw a post that Tisch costs way more than other NYU programs, what is the total cost?
