2013 Decisions

coffee from my experience last year the charges are ~43k tuition for 2 semesters, and 16k room, board, and student fees (~4k dorm charge per semester ~3600 food charge per semester, then lab fees, etc) The extra 3k may be allocated towards books 1k and spending money 2k (for the year).

So 43k + 16k + 3k = 62k

Question for top students who were waitlisted: did you demonstrate interest by attending a campus tour and also, did you interview?

According to various websites Stevens admits ~70% via early decision, and it is a small campus, so they may just run out of spaces until people start declining.

I am guessing that the 20 points were due to ACT or SAT scores. Rutgers has a test score cutoff # for their engineering honors program as well.

I did an interview and tour on the same day. I wonder what is the percentage of wait lists / rejections for people who did interviews compared to those that didn’t.

Luminiz, I wonder as well. I am in California, and unfortunately, could not schedule an interview because I was still in school (I leave school at 1:30 each day, 4:30 EST) and therefore could not make an arrangement. I noticed that there was a “California Admissions Interview” choice under the events/schedule thing, however, when I clicked that option, there was not anything available (this was back in February when I tried this). Furthermore, I contacted admissions and explained how I could not schedule an interview without missing school (high school doesn’t allow me to leave early unless I am sick) in which I was informed that interviews are not necessary for freshman admission. So hopefully, that does not have an impact on how they decide. I don’t know, I still haven’t gotten a decision by today (4/2/13). I tried calling Admissions, however no body picked up even when I called at 1:30 PST (4:30 EST) and their office is open till 5 P.M. so I am a little worried. I will email admissions (I’ve had better luck with emailing them) today if a decision is not in the mailbox today.

Nikolai, I believe there was the option of Skype interviews for out of state applicants. The hours for it also went beyond school dismissal so I think you could have set one up. Strange that you didn’t see anything like that on the website.

I was under the assumption that interviews ARE necessary. Either in person or phone, etc.

Guess I was wrong.

[Interview FAQs | Stevens Institute of Technology](http://www.stevens.edu/sit/admissions/interview-faqs.cfm)

Well it states on their own website that interviews are “highly recommended” but not necessary. For Stevens, the interview, although not mandatory, has a great amount influence for admissions. Most people from my school applied to the school but neglected to do the interview because they thought it was a hassle. And that’s why they get rejected.

Coffee12, lol yeah I guess you posted faster than me or I type real slow.

I also thought interviews were required, although seems like I remembered reading they would do them by phone, or anytime you were in the area even if you had not applied yet. That’s what S did… We were in the area and did a tour back in October, so he did the interview then.

Luminez you are right about the interviews.

They used to be required, but now they are “recommended”.

Just got letter today, in which I was wait-listed :/

aw sorry nickolai. Not interviewing may have had something to do with it. If Stevens is your top choice, I would call admissions and let them know. I’m not sure how many people they admit from their waitlist; maybe they can give you an idea of your chances.

Chin up Nickolai, I’m sure you’ll do great wherever you go. May I ask what your 2nd choice was?

coffee12, well, from where I have been accepted, UCSD would be my first choice right now. The only problem I have there is I did not get into my major there, and can only start my major at my junior year, that is, if I get accepted into the major at my junior year because I will have to apply for it. I have been in contact with UCSD Comp sci department like crazy trying to see if I could get in as a freshy because I have taken two quarters of computer science at my local California State University as a senior in high school, so I feel as though I am more than qualified to get into the major, but we will see.

As far as where I wanted to go, it was Georgia Tech, however, I was wait-listed there as well, and I will not hear anything about a decision until after May 1st.

Anyone care to share whether they are:

Accepted: attending or not
Waitlisted: staying or accepted another college offer

My son was accepted and has not made a decision yet.

Son Accepted … 99.99% attending

Just back from Stevens, deposit is in. Was told that the selections this year were more selective than last year, but they think more will enroll. They received about 5k applications with about 700 eventually enrolling.
