still waiting on mine…

Nothing yet here either. Only the email from earlier today referencing “scholarships in your area”

42 minutes in, I assume I didn’t get it

AGH!!! Nothing for D yet. her ex/bf/whatever he is now (LOL) got an semifinalist ltr. fat chance there’d be 2 at the same school. D hasn’t received anything yet.

strangely she received a “here are some alumni scholarships” email earlier today. Minor heart attack when it first came through.

GOod luck everyone! Congrats to the semifinalists and ((hugs)) to those who didn’t get the SF letter.

Unicam … hilarious that “MIT is looking better and better”. Great options!!!

(tried to give you some rep but i’m aparently out for the day. tomorrow!)

Are they sending them in waves? 2 of my friends got emails that said they didn’t make it, while my friend and I both haven’t received any emails.

EDIT: finally got it, but alas, denied D:

@unicamerial2013

I’m in the same boat with you! MIT is golden for me now! Bye Bye Georgia Tech!

One less school to choose over now =]

Congratulations to everyone who got it or who ends up getting it!

Daughter received email about 5:15…not selected as semi-finalist. I agree that it was cruel to have the first line (only thing you see before opening entire email) read Congratulations!

Daughters stats:
4.0 GPA 4.6 weighted, 36 ACT comp., NMSF, 3 sport varsity athlete, 800 Math II, 760 Physics SAT II scores, 11 AP’s by graduation with all 5’s so far, coming out of extremely competitive private school, many other extracurriculars, including service and leadership. Strong rec letters, etc., etc., etc…

We were very disappointed she didn’t even make the semi-finalist round. Congrats to all who did…there must be outstanding applicants in the pool.

Are 50% of semi-finalists from GA, leaving only 250 accepted from out of state? We are out of state, so now GT is most likely off the list, due to the cost.

My son did not get in either. Must be very tough competition because he has some pretty good stats and ECs. Unless his essays were really weak. Good luck to those that made the next round!

I got my email at around 5:15. Anyone who hasn’t gotten the email should get it soon I’d think.

Unicameral, I’ll trade you this for your MIT acceptance! :D

@MomOfLotsOfGirls: My stats are actually lower than your daughters (though not by too much). 35 ACT, and I didn’t send subjects. Like I said, I was really surprised. I guess they choose based on something beyond stats.

mom0flots - email said average of one per every 7 GA high schools. I looked it up there are 461 public high schools. That’s about 65 GA kids. Not sure how many private high schools. But it does not look like anywhere near 50% GA kids. The other state it said an average of 7 per state. …

I think the competition was high. I’m wondering if there is any chances are that my son will get into honors since he didn’t get this…

Well, I said she’s going to American Samoa Community College in decline. I didn’t expect the scholarship really, since her awards are mostly music. She does very well in math/science, but hasn’t done any competitions or olympiads or mentoring kind of stuff. Actually kinda thought she’d get semifinalist. She even got an invite to that PSP football game event. Her essays were really good too. And I have family in Atlanta, brothers and their families, she mentioned it somewhere so they’d think she might actually attend. Oh well, Chicago is her first choice, if we can afford it, and if she gets in. Congrats to all those here who advance.

^ sorry she didn’t get it. I hadn’t heard of that school before. Good Luck.

Waiting for D to get home from school and check her status. I understand that stats are important, but since there are so many with great stats, a key component is leadarship for PS. I do encourage anyone interested in Honors to apply. The two groups are different and look for different things. There should be many more Honors slots available, and I think Honors will go more so by stats.

I got the email! Congrats to everyone that was a semifinalist!

Sent from my EVO using CC

Just named semifinalist!

The email was recieved around 2:00 (Pacific time) (1.75 hours ago). Really grateful for the opportunity. I just stopped to check my status in the middle of a run at our library; if anyone would like stats, I can post them when I get home.

Congrats! My son did not make semi-finalist. Does anyone know if Georgia Tech offers any other merit scholarships? Also, do you have any chance of getting into the honors program if you didn’t make semi-finalist?

There is the Provost Scholarship for OOS students. Results will be announced Jan 15.

Thanks MichiganGeorgia. Happily she has lots of other choices and scholarships with NMF and good record. This is the first ‘letdown.’ It’s not as though she’s spent her whole life wishing to go to GaTech so it’s not a HUGE deal. She’s kind of skeptical about schools in the south in general because of worries about how she’d handle hot climate. But it’s disconcerting to have miscalculated so badly. Oh well. Good to cast a wide net, right? Ga Tech must have some really amazing applicants.

Oh, and didn’t mean to be obnoxious with the Samoa thing, just trying to find a CEEB code close to all zeros to put in.

Ouiounon, huh seriously ?? I didn’t know they release provost results so early …
