Students admitted in our Early Action round will be notified by January 15. Students selected as Provost Scholars from our Regular Decision round will be notified by March 15. </p>

You have a good chance of getting into the honors program. Many more students than those who are PS get in. Also, many of the notified 500 will not attend GT.

<p>Weeeeak I didnāt make it. No real biggie, Iām instate and my parents can easily afford the $10k or whatever it is after HOPE pays, so itās not a big deal at all practically (and the odds of my getting past the semis were very low anyway). Slight ego blow, but itās not like I had this date circled on the calendar or anything, I actually forgot about it until this week. But still. Eh. </p>

<p>Just a question guys: if one gets semifinalist in PS, then he is automatically in the honors program? My dad told me this but I never read it anywhereā¦</p>

There have been some changes recently in the honors program. Honors is still relatively new. My brother was a PS 5 years ago, and when he came to GT honors was only a year or two old. Back then Semifinalists and other strong students (judging based on their admissions application only) were asked if they would like to be in honors in mid-December. If they said yes, they were automatically in.</p>
<p>I believe this is the first year GT has had an honors application. Honors has been changing as it establishes more classes and more concrete requirements.</p>
<p>Anyway, this might be why your father was thinking that semifinalists were automatically in. I do not believe they are this year. (That being said, as long as you write a reasonable essay, I cannot imagine why they wouldnāt accept someone theyāve offered semi status to.)</p>

I do not know how many get in. From my brotherās experience in honors courses, many (most) of them are not PSās (after all there were only about 65 PSs per class [now there are only 50]). If you felt that you had a reasonable shot at semifinalist notification, I donāt see why you wouldnāt be very competitive.</p>
<p>Keep in mind some of the 9,000 early applicants (as evidenced by other threads on this forum) will likely not come to GT if they do not receive PS. Also, of the semifinalists themselves, over 100 (~115 for my brother) used to be offered PS. They only had about a 50% acceptance rate (since these students were being recruited by other top schools). Since the financial incentives have increased, I assume they have a higher yield rate now, but the point still stands - you are not competing with all the admitted students for honors; youāre competing with the (significantly smaller) freshmen class.</p>
<p>That was a lot of writing for a fairly simple point.</p>
<p>TLDR; apply for honors, donāt be disheartened. You have a strong chance. Semifinalist notification isnāt everything; a desire to be in honors is.</p>
<p>I got it, though Iām instate so my chances are probably higher. I already know a few people from my area who are also semifinalists.</p>

<p>I emailed them and they said the resume is given to your interviewer. It is pretty much all the interviewer will know about you.</p>

<p>Well I think interview period is over. We find out Friday if we advanced or not!</p>
<p>Notified at 1:10 PST. Didnāt make it. Not surprised since my interview was good but not great.</p>

<p>My S just received notification that he is a PSP Finalist. He is super excited!</p>

<p>Iāve got a perfect SAT score (the 2400), Iām valedictorian, Iāve taken 9 APs (weāre only allowed to take them as juniors and seniors) and Iāve made 5s on every AP exam Iāve taken. </p>
<p>For progress, Iām a dancer who spends over 20 a week dancing. Iāve also created a bunch of school wide initiatives and followed them to success.</p>
<p>Iāve got hundreds of hours volunteering at hospitals and with kids, and I single handedly created a recycling program and environmental club. I also pioneered an anti-bullying campaign for my school. I work with a bunch of other service clubs as well. </p>
<p>Iām president of NHS, my environmental club and math club, Iāve camp counseled, I teach dance to kids and everyone who knows me knows that Iām a natural leader.</p>
<p>Iāve gotten a bunch of accolades, won state academic competitions, been selected for a few student of the year awards, I was on homecoming court and so much more.</p>
<p>My calculus teacher whoās taught many students who went on to become GT presidential scholars told me I was a shoo-in for it. My PS friends told me the same thing, so I was really hopeful. I thought my interview went well. Iām also a Georgia resident.</p>
<p>The only thing I donāt have is legacy. None of my family has gone to Tech and I have no alumni connections. </p>
<p>Itās kind of always been my dream so that email broke my heart, but congratulations to those of you who made it! You must really deserve it :)</p>
