As an accepted honor student, I had the honor breakfast with the administration and faculty. It was a pleasant experience. I sat in a table with other people with my major and spoke with current students. They gave me great input on the school and it's programs. There were guest student speakers talking about their experiences. Some people turned down big name schools to come here. I feel comfortable with the fact that the honors college really does improve your undergraduate experience and has opportunities for every major. Overall it was an enjoyable day.

^ Thanks for passing this along. My son left on his senior trip at 4 am this morning, so he couldn’t be there. Could you provide some more specifics on what really impressed you?

Well mtown27, the honors college is relatively small in enrollment and you have great connections with the faculty. I remember the President/ dean of njit at the breakfast casually speak with honor students as if they were close pals. The honor students partake in their own projects outside of school as one of the honors track and work closely with the faculty. This opens up research opportunities and job connections with your professors.

Thanks Luminiz, that was helpful. @mtown27 D has narrowed it down to Stony Brook (WISE program), Univ. of Minn Twin Cities, RIT and NJIT (ADHC program). Hoping to get full ride at NJIT and that will make it a clear choice.

Rani, Most honors student have a very generous fa package. Did you receive the fa letters yet with the honors scholarship?

Luminiz, Nothing so far. Though D had recd. NJIT Presidential and faculty scholarship, I understand that the Honors college also gives addtl scholarship. The ADHC told me to keep checking the “awards website” as it will be added there this week. keeping fingers crossed.

Rani which state do you reside in if you don’t mind me asking?

@rani … son also applied to RIT and UMN as well! As he didn’t want to travel halfway across the country, he eliminated UMN. He also recently eliminated RIT as well. My son has also very recently become interested in Civil Engineering, which may eliminate UMBC.

@Luminiz, D will be out of state all the way from AZ!
@mtown as on OOS the the COA becomes a bit much given that there will also be travel involved and not to mention that we are one of those “fortunate” ones who are borderline and won’t qualify for any substantive fin aid. If not D has already been accepted to ASU Barretts Honors college with full Presidential Scholarship and thats what she will choose.

Rani, best of luck to which ever your D chooses!
