10 minutes until email... I'm nervous D:

congrats all who made it in - you are all very deserving - go do great things!

You folks rejected- your stats are all great - you will go do great things too, just somewhere else!

son rejected
I don't have his complete stats
but here is the gist

High test scores 34 composite ACT - 800 Math SAT (not so high CR - 670 or so - abyssmal W 510 I think)

Low GPA (3.2) and class rank _ not a good writer and does/did poorly in English Composition (including probably his College app essays - very perfunctory) Grades VERY lopsided. A's in all maths and sciences - C's in all humanities classes except voice (choir - A's)

No hook unless being from a tiny town without much in the way of educational opportunity is one

Math and physics teachers recs were very good - most brilliant math student they have had in 30 years, blah blah blah. English teacher ?- who knows

white male

the usual EC's for a small school and small town - awards in knowledge bowl, science bowl, state math comp(1st place individual)- nothing of much high-powered note and no faculty interested or aware enough to inform him of competitions in which he would have excelled.

honors choir, state solo and ensemble competitions

wants to major in pure math

rejection was expected - but it would be a perfect school for him

REJECTED

GPA: 4.3 weighted
SAT I: 2390 (800 CR, 800 M, 790 W one sitting)
SAT II: 800 Math IIC
770 Physics
770 U.S. History
AP: Calc BC, Physics B, US History, English Lang., Psychology all 5.

pretty good essay, nice recommendations
asian male, international, and financial aid all converged in a trifecta of "REJECTION"
wasn't expecting much, but it sure stings hahahaha
congrats to everyone who got in!

@static75: I'm just saying that normal people still have a shot - although I had good test scores, my ECs weren't incredible or anything (no usamo or olympiad, I didn't even call my 'research' actually research heh). I've found that CC has the ability to make everyone think they suck, even when they are quite good. Anyway, good luck everyone.

[]Awards:A couple random awards from the math team, some random science award, and first place in a regional essay contest
[li]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: Not all that surprised, I knew I was good but up against heavy competition. I just feel really cheated by the timing of everything. World Quest and Debate team only recently existed, our science Olympiad just a few weeks ago came in second at regional qualifying for State for the first time in our schools history (with me bringing in a nice crop of medals), and I finally managed to qualify for the AIME (hid my previous shameful AMC scores). And no one got to see any of this. I guess I could put it on the waitlist form, but just ugh. One down, a dozen (pseudo)rejections to go![/li][/ul]

[]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: YAYAYAYAYAYAY! It feels great to be accepted to such a wonderful college but now the question is financing... that will be the biggest decision factor for me. I was not expecting to get accepted to Caltech at all being a junior. My biggest obstacle was finding out how to write the essays/figuring out the topic. But my suggestion is to write about yourself from various perspectives so that the admissions committee will get to know you well. And I found, at least for me, that it is not necessary to spend a couple of months over an essay- you just have to get that writing spark and it will turn out to be a passionate, sincere essay. Go class of 2013!!! [/ul]

[li]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: I applied to CalTech off a whim not really expecting to get in, but I liked everything I'd heard about the school so I figured why not. I asked my guidance department to send out my transcript to them at the last possible minute, 2 days before Christmas break. Getting in was so unexpected but it lifted such a huge weight since I've been so worried about college over the last few months. I was at school (for 14 hours for this really cool team math modeling competition, the M3 challenge or something like that LOL) when my mom called and I asked her to get the mail and tell me what was there. When she told me there was some kind of big envelope I swear my heart almost stopped![/li][/ul]
