[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My prediction is deferral/rejection so, yeah.[/li][/ul]General Comments: I’m not amazing, but with how arbitrary some of the results seem, I might have a chance >>

billorani17, it’s nice to see another Indian classical dancer!
but–and i’m sorry to be the one to tell you this–Yale doesn’t accept supplementary DVDs. i had considered sending a Kuchipudi performance, but their site warned against this. i’m sure everything will work out for you, but be sure to double-check what other colleges accept before sending supps!

hey, what’s the time difference for the west coast to the east? does anyone know? thanks =]

three hours, haha

so…2:00…the middle of school. gulp

Yup. For me it’s right between my 6th & 7th period, so I’ll probably ditch class to check :x

Fine, fine, I’m doing EA too…

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2310 composite (800 CR, 770 M, 740 W)
[] ACT: N/A
[] SAT II: 800 Bio-E, 800 Math IIC, 800 Chem
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Well… I made ELC… so top 4%?
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): Biology (5), Computer Science A (5), Calculus AB (5), Chemistry (5)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis):
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP English Lit, AP Calculus BC, Honors Spanish 4, Orchestra, AP Physics B, AP Comparative Government/Econ
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Commended
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Taekwondo, leadership/instructor training program for Taekwondo, a youth orchestra, a summer symphony at a nearby university, science club (co-founder and co-president), violin
[] Job/Work Experience: N/A
[] Volunteer/Community service: Work at a children’s hospital, that leadership/instructor training program, and the youth orchestra (for example, we played culturally-enriching concerts)
[] Summer Activities: That summer symphony, hospital, and other stuff (like camp)
[] Essays: The Common App one was okay (I’m assured that the final draft was much better than what I had once handed into my English teacher), and one person really loved my Yale supplement essay, although the another had some doubts…
[] Teacher Recommendation: One from my English teacher (I’m his first student to venture into AP English, and got consistent top scores, and have a good relationship with him), and one from my AP Chem teacher (who I also TA for this year); haven’t read their letters, so I can’t really tell. Not expecting that much dazzle from their letters
[] Counselor Rec: Can’t tell. But we have a nice relationship…
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[] Interview: Never had one :frowning:
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): CA
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: Uh… middle class, at least…
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: My test scores and GPA, some of the ECs that I’ve consistently done, how I self-studied myself into Spanish 2 and later took an equivalent of Spanish 3 over the summer to “skip” to Spanish 4
[] Weaknesses: I could’ve done better with my junior couse load, no big awards, no hooks, kind of have some doubts about my essays (especially my “Why Yale” one (which was why having no interval is a personal negative, as I didn’t really have a chance to passionately add to why I wanted to go to Yale), but then again, this might just be anxiety with EA decisions in less than 24 hours from now), and let’s not forget that I’m Asian. :stuck_out_tongue: I would say my “big excuse” would be that I moved in the middle of my high school career, from a rather laid-back school to a more competitive public school, but it obviously won’t cover up my weaknesses.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: If accepted, because admissions is a crapshoot (which was what motivated me to apply early anyway). If deferred/denied, I kind of look like a run-of-the-mill student in the applicant pool… maybe with even less luster…
[/ul]General Comments: Decisions have been made, but really, we’re all amazing. What’s going to differentiate us? I’d say it’ll mostly be luck. But still, good luck, and godspeed everyone!

Crap… having done this… I’m kind of more sure that I’ve screwed up… T___T

i guess i’ll throw this up here

[] Weaknesses: relatively weak ECs (compared to cc at least…you guys are amazing!), lack of community service or job.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Not looking forward to tomorrow.
[/ul]General Comments: Good Luck! It’s been both comforting and nerve-wracking looking at these forums, but at least, if I get in, I know that some of the people at Yale are pretty cool! And crazy involved, too.

[] Summer Activities: Camp counselor; Yearbook conferences & awards
[] Essays: I’ve been told by an admissions officer (not from Yale) that they are the best she’s ever read. Teachers called them powerful, beautiful, and moving. Whatever. One is about an abusive stepfather that has had a profound impact on me. The other is about a yearbook experience.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Excellent
[] Counselor Rec: Don’t know her well.
[] Additional Rec: From my HJ Yearbook rep, who has worked with literally thousands of editors and 50 schools, and said she’s never seen someone like me in her career

I don’t want to jinx anyone, but ^ blew me away.

Yeah, seriously. People like that make me lose hope of all chances :(

haha, i haven’t even gotten my decision yet but i already want to cry.

But that’s how I feel about you guys. I was originally very hesitant to put up any information because the other posts were really really intimidating, so I thought of it as a way to help crazy people compare themselves to others. Then, I realized how much it really helped me to read through these pages of amazing ppl (RCfanatic, Davidson Fellows, TASP-ers, seriously AMAZING people) and realize that I really AM a big fish in a small pond- more like puddle- and that I really can’t expect that much tomorrow.

I’m sure you guys understand how I’m feeling. Many of us are big fishies in little ponds, ready to explore the big ocean  we just don’t know what kind of real big fishies are out there and how many other medium fishies there are.

Yes. I feel like a medium-sized fish in a tiny pond.

I don’t feel like a fish =] I feel like…a seahorse?

I’m a big fish in a medium pond, haha. Still, pianista, your achievements are things I’d dream of having :)

LongDarkRoad, i feel pretty much the same :/
