***2013 UC-UC Transfer Thread***

<p>I have already written my personal statements, but I’m looking for people to critique it :frowning: Does anyone want to critique my personal statements for me? Perhaps we can help each other? I can’t do PM cause I don’t have enough posts, but I could by email :)!</p>

<p>Well, the application is officially out! Who’s started applying already?</p>

<p>I logged on and created my application!! does that count?</p>

<p>Well, we’re all officially allowed to submit our applications this month! Any more UC-UC transfers? Post your stats!</p>

<p>GPA: 3.6 by the end of Fall Quarter
GEs Completed: All by end of Spring
Prereqs Done: All
Major: Political Science
Transferring from: UCR
Applying to: UC Berkeley
ECs: Part time job that takes up all of my day. Tutoring and writing. Self published books, online business.
Number of units completed: 85 quarter units by the end of Fall 2012
Notes: Took 3 UC Berkeley summer session classes
Disadvantages: Took four classes pass/no pass
Advantages: Will get all A’s in my classes this quarter, so there is an upward grade trend. Also, I discussed my financial situation in my app, and how living in northern california would ease my financial problems.</p>

<p>GPA: Expecting 3.1 by the end of Fall Quarter
GEs Completed: Almost all.
Prereqs Done: Hopefully finished by Winter (definitely by Spring)
Major: Pre-business
Transferring from: UC Riverside
Applying to: UC Irvine
ECs: Recent part time job as assistant manager at Medusa Lounge in LA. Another job at a start up company called “Forked” in LA. Internship for Gilead in the resource management department several years back. President of hometown’s longboard & skate association & sponsored rider.
Number of units completed: 65 Quarter Units</p>

<p>Also, I’m confident in my essays. In the first essay I discussed my major and tied in my work experience. In the second I used my experience leading the longboard community and my own self-discovery, etc etc.</p>

<p>Can anyone give their opinion on what my outlook should be? My academics definitely are not as strong as I would’ve hoped, but I’ve been working for several years behind it all, so I’m hoping my essays and EC’s can help back myself up.</p>

<p>Are we allowed to reuse parts of essays from our senior year UC Application? Would it be considered plaigarism even if it’s our own writing?</p>

<p>You can reuse your essay for the 2nd prompt (“Describe the world you come from, blah blah”), but not for the 1st prompt because it’s completely different. And no, I don’t think it would be considered plagiarism because it’s still your own writing (assuming you didn’t plagiarize your senior UC app essay in the first place LOL).</p>

<p>GPA: Expecting 3.69-3.72 drop from 3.75, with reason.
UC Reciprocity: Nope
Prereqs Done: All, began upper division work already.
Major: Italian
Transferring from: UCSB
Applying to: UCLA, UCD
ECs: Italian Club + various volunteering & community service activities. I also listed high school EC’s.</p>

<p>GPA: 3.6-3.7 by the end of Fall Quarter.
GEs Completed: Completed by summer.
Prereqs Done: Will be done by summer. (How can I check the prerequisites by the way?)
Major: Cell Biology
Transferring from: UCD
Applying to: UCI, UCSD, UCLA
ECs: Piano, volunteer work, tutoring.
Number of units completed: 84 by the end of fall.
Notes: Admitted to UCSD 2 years ago.
Disadvantages: However, failed 2 summer classes due to personal reasons but retaking them by the end of next year.
Advantages: Will do much better this quarter. Also moving to southern california would be better for my family.</p>

<p>I have a question though. If I took a summer class at a CC, it asks me to list the college but it also asks for “what degree” and “when it was completed”. What should i put?</p>

<p>GPA: 3.40
GEs Completed: Some, do not have UC reciprocity
Prereqs Done: All will be done by Spring 2013
Major: Electrical Engineering
Transferring from: UC Santa Cruz
Applying to: UCI,UCSB,UCSD,UCLA(and UW Seattle,VirginiaTech,University of Illinois)
ECs: Vice Chair of IEEE, team leader of a UAV project, team leader of a group participating in the micromouse competition, mentoring freshman engineers, etc
Number of units completed: 86 completed by end of Fall 2012, 124 planned by end of spring</p>

<p>Chances anyone? I know UCLA and UCSD are extreme reaches, but do I have a shot at UCI or UCSB? Main reason for transfer is that I also want a Mechanical engineering minor(not offered here), and to be part of a larger engineering program.</p>

<p>bump 10char^^</p>

<p>Hoping and praying I get into UCI  (transferring from UCD)</p>

<p>I have a 3.5 GPA as a biological sciences major, will have all prereqs and GEs done by summer, and several extracurriculars. Really hoping I get in…!!</p>

<p>@fuzzyducky: Haha, I’ll trade you schools. I’m hoping you’re pre-health, because that’s all UCI has as far as clubs go. You want pre-med, pre-pharm, pre-dentistry, pre-optometry, you name it, they have. But I want to get a PhD in microbio. No club for that :(</p>

<p>@MTBcrazy: Honestly, none of us really know our own chances because UC-UC transfers are treated so differently across the schools. I’d love to be more helpful, but there’s just not enough information out there. As far as UCLA goes, have you seen this?

<p>bump…any updates anyone? </p>

<p>Applying from UCSC.
Applied: UCB, UCD, UCLA, UCSD
Admitted: UCSD
Rejected: UCLA (predicting I’ll be rejected due to lack of pre-reqs…to any UCSC politics majors who are considering transferring out of UCSC to UCLA, Poli 20 is the ONLY lower-div politics class at UCSC that satisfies a pre-req for UCLA polisci. In other words, if you really want to transfer to UCLA from UCSC as a poli sci major, figure a way out to get the necessary pre-reqs, perhaps by taking the courses at Cabrillo or something. UCLA’s not one of my top choices, so I didn’t really make an effort to better my chances of admission to the school.)
GPA: 3.98 (3.97 at time of application)
Major GPA: 4.0</p>

<p>Will give a more comprehensive overview of my stats after Berkeley decisions.</p>

<p>Not an official update, but I’m 99.99% sure that this stuff’s accurate.</p>

<p>Applying from: UCSC
Applied to: UCD
Major: Physics
GPA: 3.17
Prereqs: Completed all but 2 classes (which aren’t offered at UCSC).
GEs: Not completed.</p>

<p>I believe I got accepted to UC Davis (or was at least put on the waitlist). Go here for all the speculation that’s flying around about UCD’s decisions: <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1473841-uc-davis-decision-myawards.html[/url]”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1473841-uc-davis-decision-myawards.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

<p>@cinnabon</p>

<p>just curious, up to now, do you think there are a large number of applicants getting the appeal form based on your own observation?</p>

<p>There’s definitely a fair number of people getting the appeals form. Most people who replied to the thread got the “sorry” message but it makes sense cuz they have high GPAs. You know, I should ask people to post if they have the appeals form though, just to add to the observations.</p>

<p>Does anyone know what I need to do if I dropped a class? I didn’t need the class for anything I was just taking it for fun and ended up needing to drop it. Do I contact the admissions at UC Davis (the only school I applied to) or would I be able to in my UC application?</p>

<p>Good luck 2014 UC-UC Transfers!</p>

<p>Accepted: UCD (Regents Scholar), Berkeley
GPA after transfer update: 3.975
Major: Microbiology
Extracurriculars: Vice President of a club, research, housing community leadership</p>

<p>Now I just have to choose between Davis Regents and Berkeley! Any comments/opinions?</p>
