Most of you probably already aware, but my DS pointed this out…
November 22: Residence halls close at 9 a.m. for Thanksgiving holidays
November 30: Residence halls re-open at 9 a.m.

@MiWiTx That is the official closing and opening. Vanderbilt is very accommodating. If a student wants to leave later or return sooner all they need to do is register online with housing. The dining hall is not open but there are plenty of restaurants around the university.

The University of Tennessee football game is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. If they want to attend, they can stay in their room.

I am pleased to join this community. Every aspect of drop-off reassured me as a parent and, like some on these boards, I also did not cry on the way home. I was proud of her and of us for the path we had forged. Chancellor Zeppos made a surprise visit to my daughter’s room while she was getting her Commodore Card and told us how he believes they are “happiest” because they are so friendly to each other. This week we got a text from our daughter telling us how so many people say hello to her by name on campus. This is why I am glad she choose Vanderbilt.

My D just informed me of her finals schedule…bad luck with a 3:00pm final on the last Saturday… Her others are much earlier in the week, so she will have plenty of time to study for that last one! Now to find a flight out before the dorms close on Sunday.

@MImama You don’t have to find a flight out by the time the dorms close. Your daughter will just need to go online and register that she is staying longer. It is really easy.

The Vineyard Vines store in Green Hills has Vanderbilt belts and ties. If you can get away during parents weekend, they make great holiday gifts for the Vandy guys.

We’re heading to Nashville this Friday and will be staying for 10 days. I am really looking forward to seeing my son and where he lives. I didn’t go for move-in this year. We plan on exploring Nashville and the area around it. I already have more to do than time to do it. We’ll get to see our son some, but I know that there will be days that we don’t see him.

I’ve been thinking that we should try to have a CC meet and greet during family weekend. My thought was either Friday morning or afternoon when the kids are in class. We could also do it on campus. Thoughts?

I think that’s a great idea, Go9ersjh! I think it’s about time we all met in person! I think Friday would be great. Are any of you going to the meeting with the Chancellor? It might be nice to meet up afterwards. I think doing it on campus sounds great. Just wish I knew my way around!

The meeting with the Chancellor is on Saturday. We will not be able to attend since we will be involved with the band activities on Saturday morning prior to the football game.

How does 1 PM on Friday sound? If we can find a time, then I’ll work on a location on campus. Since I’ll be there a week ahead of time I should be able to find a central location.

lindz126–I don’t know the schedule for the airport shuttle but my daughter never had much luck with it–instead she uses a commercial service called In-Shuttle (inshuttle.com) that is $18 round trip to the airport from several locations on campus. It is very reliable and you can make all your reservations on their website. Lots of kids also split the cost of taxis to the airport and put it on their Commodore Card. I think D said the school shuttle gets filled quickly and doesn’t have as many time choices but that may have improved?

I am envious of all you parents going to Parents Weekend–am sure you will have a wonderful time and hope you see some winning football :-)

Is this a parents-only meeting? My class right before that ends at 1:00 or 1:10 (depending on when the prof just gets tired of talking, haha!) and I’d love to meet you all and bring my parents along, despite their lack of CC love!
