Are you sure? That link has information for the 2014 entering class. Based on when they put up the information for 2013-14 cycle, its too early for you to find the info for 2014-15 cycle on AMCAS.

^ Yes, unless I read it wrong (which wouldn’t be the first time I’ve done that)

They posted this link on their Facebook page this morning with the following:

Already thinking about heading to medical school in the fall of 2015? We have some information for you: http://ow.ly/oBDOR.

And I didn’t check it out since I’m not applying- just told D about it

Has anyone heard if accepted yet for 2024 ? Miami miller or fau?

^This thread is for students getting ready to apply next cycle. Your question should be asked on the thread fort the current cycle:

MCAT info posted by AMCAS today on Facebook (and bumping this thread back up to first page)

https://www.aamc.org/students/download/63060/data/mcatessentials.pdf

Thanks for the info. My younger D will be applying this cycle so I’ll be looking here for support!

AMCAS has this :

DS1 plans to apply this cycle. If he submits the primary application by 6/10 while he is taking a summer class (probably done by 6/28), the grade will not be included on his transcript, right? But, would that complicate his transcript verification?

He will list the course under “anticipated” or “planned” (I forget which AMCAS is using now) rather than indicating he already completed it.

Because it’s not listed as a completed course, AMCAS won’t be looking for a grade for that class on his transcript.

If he does list the class and there’s no grade on his transcript, it will delay the processing of his app while the issue gets resolved. (i.e. your son can send a transcript showing a grade for the class.)

Your son will NOT be able to edit or update his course list once he submits to AMCAS.

But he can always send an update letter (if they accept them–he always needs to ASK the school first) where he lists his new coursework and grades once he is complete at a particular school.

Unless the summer class is a pre-req, a update letter isn’t strictly required.

WOWM,

Thanks as usual. He has taken the intensive writing course; but, he needs to take the basic English writing course in senior year or the summer before. He was exempted from it (w/o credits) based upon his SAT score. It is a prerequisite for some schools. But, MSAR lists one year of English as the requirement. Would AMCAS not calculate the AMCAS grade w/o the English grade? If so, he will have to take it this coming summer.

Students can apply with pre-reqs missing or pending. AMCAS will process your son’s app and verify his transcript as long as he does NOT list the missing pre-reqs as an already completed class. Since there is no grade expected for the pending class, it will not be included in any calculation of his GPA.

Pre-reqs must be completed before a student can matriculate. Med school admission is always conditional on receiving a final official transcript showing a student has: 1) graduated and 2) completed all pre-reqs. Each school will have a school-specific date by which this transcript must be received. If the required transcript doesn’t materialize by the deadline, a student will be dis-enrolled and his seat offered to someone on the waitlist.

Remember, AMCAS is mostly a clearinghouse and processing center. They don’t vet applicants or make judgements about their qualifications. That’s done by the admissions dept of the individual med school.

The application for the 2014 fee assistance program is now open, according to AAMC pre-med Facebook post.

My S is planning to take his first MCAT this Jan. But looks like there is a very slim pick for March and April slots. What is the latest date student can take MCAT to apply for this year’s cycle? If they take it in May/June will they miss the early review process? Can they complete primary without MCAT score?

I applied this cycle and took my MCAT in May. I got my results in June before my application was released. It did not delay my application or negatively impact my application. I would say that May or June is fine. April is nice in case you have to retake but I took it in May (2 weeks after finals) to have the extra time. I know many people who took it in July and also did well. But taking it in the Spring is ideal. And yes, you can submit your application and have it verified without a score. Initially, I applied to one school (my state school) that I would apply to no matter what my score would be and added other schools after it was released.

Thanks Pinkstuffz. Sounds like picking May date post finals is a good idea. I am assuming Med school will see all the scores.

Texaspg, even at USC a California applicant is not ‘guaranteed’ an interview. D with very high stats just got one a few weeks ago. And still no acceptances to any California school (waiting on three though). Definitely the toughest place for residents to be accepted to med school.

But to the class of 2019 parents, this has been a great year for me as a 2018 parent. It’s very exciting. The highest of the highs when your child is accepted to medical school.

@hellorn yep- that’s why it’s best to take it when you are ready and once.

In Texas it is best to have results in May. AAMC should be ok with June results.

TatinG - were you willing to pay full price tag at USC?

It sounds like she interviewed in 3 (+1). So that is a lot more interviews than most Cal residents are getting irrespective of their stats.

Again, only 37.1% of all Cal residents are going to a med school are going in Cal. That is abysmal compared to a State like Texas where it is much much higher.

texaspg, Do you mean to say best to have results in May for Texas State school or all the schools including BCM? We are Texas residents. But my S is doing his UG out of State.

TatinG, California med schools just like to keep their applicants wait longer. I know at least 2 cases (both had very high stats) which were like this - one of them got in VERY late in the application cycle (to the “happy” west coast med school, UCLA - but this was his/her only admission to a California med school.)

hellorn - that is my impression without knowing when MCAT is offered. BCM goes through AAMC but the other schools going through TMDSAS open up on May 1st, interviews starting on August 1st. The early match in Sept as early results on Nov 15th. I know students who finished most interviews by mid September for almost all schools in Texas.

Important Dates

May 1

Application becomes available at 8:00 AM (Central Time).

Aug 1 - Dec 31

Most medical and dental school interviews are conducted during this time period.

September 15

University of North Texas Health Science Center - Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine notify Early Decision Program applicants regarding their admission action.
