Does anyone know the acceptance rates for Choate, Kent, Loomis Chafee, St. George School, and/or Culver? Thanks!

From this past Choate admissions cycle (in an email sent to me in regards to my revisit day): “we considered candidates from 62 countries and 43 states! We admitted about 21% of the nearly 2,000 who applied.” @notrightnow

Loomis hasn’t released their statements yet but I have to imagine that it was lower than usual, due to the record amount of applications.

@prepschoolwannab thanks! thats actually the one I really wanted to hear about

Great! Good luck! @notrightnow

Almost every school had a record number of applications. The formulas Admissions use for yield purposes was altered this year by many schools so not to over enroll. Bottom line, they lowered the acceptances with the expectations of utilizing their waitlist. It is because of the large number of applications that the schools changed the game plan somewhat even though trying to remain close as possible to past practices. They really weren’t sure about the outcome with an additional 100-200 or more applications. They want to have enough beds. As I read the postings and comments about schools not going to their waitlist, I realize that is not altogether correct. I am aware of a lot of schools that went to their waitlist but initially had to be a very short list followed by their usual waitlist. For the first time in about 10 years I would have to say there was/is a better chance in getting accepted off a waitlist but nothing to hang your hat on.
Having said that, sounds like the schools that over enrolled used the old math with new numbers.
It also appears that the schools have been successful in getting the message out about the strong desire for diversity coupled with the availability of FA.
But, at the same time with an increase in need of FA versus the ability of FP, the FP will more likely win out. There are just as many qualified FP applicants as there are those in need of FA. There are stats we just won’t be able to see and schools feel uncomfortable divulging sensitive if not PNC issues. Needless to say, it’s been another very tough year. I now personally know just as many kids who were taken off a wait list as those who were accepted. The five WL that I know were waitlisted at all their schools but one. The other five got into almost all the schools to which they applied. There was definitely some consistency in that respect. All ten are FP. Half from PS, half from private and all girls.

The acceptance rate for international students at Tabor Academy was 17% this year. I do not know the rate for non-international students.

Unless there was a huge change, it’d be significantly higher for domestic.

anyone know anything for exeter?

specifically, the admission rate for incoming preps?

How about Deerfied? Anyone know the stats for Deerfield?

https://deerfield.edu/scroll/2009/04/22/admissions-more-selective-than-ever/

Seriously, if you type in Deerfield Admission Stats 2014 on google, this pops up. It ain’t that hard, people.

That was 2009. @mrnephew

:P LOL

Oops. But then it got higher? And then lower.

My bad, people. Ignore me.

The Lawrenceville accept rate for 2014 was 19.5% (and for legacy 60%). See paragraph 6 of this enclosed posting on Facebook by a trustee:

“Our support for our alumni families is extraordinarily robust: our legacy admissions rate this spring was 61%, or over 3x the 19.5% rate of the overall applicant pool.”

(sorry not sure if linking to FB posts are allowed are not). PM me if you’d like the URL

I would suspect the other legacy 40% will not be contributing the Annual Fund this year. Admissions is not a task taken lightly and takes a tempered soul to address the po’d alumni and/or parents.

The reason Taft has such a low rate is because they do not accept over-qualified candidates. If an applicant is applying to Andover, Exeter, St. Pauls e.t.c. and is obviously more interested in those schools, Taft will realize they are the safety school and decline.

Where’d you get this information? There’s plenty of people that like Taft a lot, even if they’re overqualified. I would have taken Loomis over Andover if I had gotten rejected from Lawrenceville.

And admissions don’t work like that. They’d accept the overqualified candidates, along with others, and then have others in the waitlist so if the acceptee chose another school, then they’d go to the waitlist.

Taft is no where near a safety school. I dislike the whole idea of a “safety school” in the first place. Your “safety school” might be someones dream school.
