2014 Admit Calling Campaign About To Start!

Does the call go out to all URMs, or just the top ones?

I was wondering that as well…

Here is a link sent to the UCSD faculty about it.
<a href=“Faculty Participation in the Early Calling Campaign for 2014 Admitted Students”>http://adminrecords.ucsd.edu/Notices/2014/2014-2-20-1.html</a>
and here is info on it from Ms Sun’s website
Error;

Sooo a random # of URMs, top or not…

I got a call today letting me know that I have been accepted for Bioengineering!

Congrats CollegiateDreams!!

Son got call, high stats URM. 2300 SAT, 4.0 UW GPA.

Not sure how this call increases the probability of enrollment.

He sounded pretty happy.

Congrats rgosula! I think the idea is that people respond favorably to the personal touch. It’s nice to feel that you are more than a number or file. I know when my D14 was called and personally invited to apply for a scholarship at one of her safety schools, she was very pleased and more interested in the school as a result. Best of luck to your son!

I guess we are more objective people. We look a look a lot at rankings, money being offered, and stats. Don’t reallly buy into touchy feely holistic stuff.

rgosula – wasn’t your son Regents at UCSB? Any mention of UCSD Regents in the phone call?

@PetraElise: Thank you. :)

@SoCalDad2 no mention of anything.
My son asked about which college within ucsd, and they did not know that either.
So could go either way.

^^^ So not much info learned from the call

But the probability of regents without it being mentioned I think is low

@rgosula – well, stats are important, but I do like to consider how the school administration views their student body – I think a personal touch is a good sign of administration style, especially for a large school like UCSD. Overall, it may not make much difference, but presumably the stats met with your S’s approval otherwise he wouldn’t have applied there. And he now knows that he has admission, so he can enjoy that great feeling for a bit

If the caller didn’t know your son’s college, it may be that the caller is given no information about the student they are calling. So the caller wouldn’t know if the student were Regents.

My caller told me what college and major I was admitted to. I got Regents at UCSB, but no word from UCSD. The other person I know who received a call was also told what college they were admitted to.

Yep UCSD is his top ranked acceptance up till now. I would still take UCSB+regents over UCSD wo/regents. But I am not sure what his preference is. He is @ his mom’s this week.

…

Daughter also got the call! Ufa, I was worried for her.
