My daughter is also white. “Historically underrepresented” can mean a lot of things. In her case, it could be because we are from a small town in Arkansas. Probably not too many applicants from here!

^^^ Yes, I’m guessing my non-URM son might qualify as “historically underrepresented” because he grew up shoveling snow and stacking firewood! :D

I don’t think so. I read a post somewhere, from a student who is involved in the calling, that seemed to indicate they just log in, and then are presented with a list of students they can call. I sort of got the impression that they just call how ever many they want that are on the list, and that maybe they can even fine tune their list for students in their major/department, or certain regions. It wasn’t spelled out that specifically, but that’s the impression I got. Maybe this week they are working from an expanded list, that includes more than just ethnic URMs

I am not a part of any URMs and I am also OOS. I received a call from the 858 area code (that being San Diego) and did some further digging to see that the number was directly linked to UCSD. However, I did not answer the call. I was wondering if the call may have been regarding my admission status despite that I am OOS. Any thoughts?

Yep, that was probably “the call” and you should have answered! I know of at least two OOS students who received calls this week. I’m guessing that congratulations are in order!

For those students who were so surprised by the phone call that they forgot to ask any important questions, how do they find out what school they were admitted to, what residential college they’re in, and if they got Regents? Will all that info be posted online on Saturday, or do they have to wait for notification by snail mail?

Sorry, I’m new at this, so I’m hoping the experts will chime in . . . thanks!

I"m wondering the same, dodgersmom! My daughter said taken by surprise and only responded, “That’s greatI” or something to that effect, and then the caller laughed, and that was it.

If anyone knows, can someone please answer my question? I got the call but I can’t figure out what made me qualified to get the call. I’m Asian so it’s not like I’m URM or anything. I seriously doubt that I’m a Regents Scholar either, looking at my UC GPA. Could it be because my family’s income is low?

^^^ It may more be the case that they don’t have enough callers to call everyone, and so some get the call, and some don’t. One data point – no call to our son so far, and he is Regents at UCSB and UCI, and was invited to apply for Regents at UCLA and UCSC.

Just wanted to contribute. Last year my son got into UCSD. We check on his iphone on the Saturday, around 1:15 pm. (we were checking every 15 minutes) After logging in we saw the acceptance notice with the college and major he was admitted to (Muir, Biology) We were initially disappointed because it did not mention Regent (he got Regent at UCD and UCSB, but not UCB), but when we went to the finance page/tab, it stated Regent Scholar because the finance page would estimate your first year cost, and it included the $2000 scholarship on the first year budget. Hope this helps. Getting Regent has been a big advantage for picking classes in his 2nd and 3rd quarter because he is in the first group to pick classes.

YAY! I just got a call about a half hour ago. It was completely unexpected since I’m Asian and middle class with nothing that special.
Anyway, I did ask the person how they decided who to call. She said it was just a list on the computer database sooo idk.

@USMC0311: I am already admitted and after seeing your post on the housing trick thread, I decided to see what the housing application said out of curiosity and it said to check back in the spring (AKA in two days)

So yesterday, I received a call around 7:30 PM Pacific Time. My phone was on Do Not Disturb so I missed the call. When I called back, I was directed to the UCSD Office Of Admissions automated voice message. Was this what they were calling me about? Or am I just getting too hopeful and excited?
