2014 African Americans!

I’m in the same boat as you, nil. Yale is also my first choice. Im in the top ten percent too. and my GPA is 3.7 weighted and 30 ACT. I’m pretty sure if one of us gets in, the other should too. lol. Let’s just hope that URM bonus is big enough!

t minus 2 days for ed decisions. freaking. out.

I just got into FSU, so my college search is over.

Good luck guys!

Just a pesty mom here reminding all of you to check out the Ron Brown scholarship.

[Ron Brown Scholar Program](http://www.ronbrown.org/home.aspx)

dnerd, congrats on FSU. awesome school.

i don’t think i could bear to do ron brown after i just finished doing questbridge. ahah.

Congrats Dnerd.

@kryshel. Now that you are a veteran in the application process, the Ron Brown should be pretty easy…Go for it

And don’t forget Gates! :)

[::. The Gates Millennium Scholars .::](http://gmsp.org/)

Trust me, 2 years ago, my daughter was less than thrilled at my “suggestion” that she apply for Ron Brown and Gates AFTER she was a QB match at her #1 school, but she now thanks me…often! She did get Gates, and as a result, instead of working in the library, dining hall, gym, etc., Gates gives her a check at the beginning of each semester to cover what she would have made on work study. Those extra 10 hours/week or so that she would have had to work are priceless in the extra time she has to study (at least that’s what I care to think she is doing!) :)

yeah I feel the same way. Questbridge took a lot out of me, but it helped me a lot with other applications like the essays in college apps. But GA2012MOM you sound like my mom. I applied for questbridge and didn’t get in but it was a lot of work. But one of the partner schools was my top school to apply to but my mom pushed me to do ED to that school even though I only had a week left and didn’t feel up to it and felt like I coudn’t do it. But I’m sooo glad she pushed me to do it.

Yeah the gates one is good but you have to see if u qualify for the pell grant which you have to apply to the freeweb fa( i forgot what it is called) which u apply in jan.

The deadline for Gates is January 11th, and it is extensive and also needs online submissions from 2 teachers/others .

Gates does not need verification for Pell Grant upon submission. If you think you are eligible, or even close, fill out the FAFSA4caster to see if you are.

If you are interested in Gates, you should be doing it now, as the holidays are coming and you can’t ask your teachers after the break! (I wouldn’t think they would like that! :frowning: )

Gates has much more to do with other qualities than just GPA/SAT/ACT scores. They are interested in people who are community involved, those who they think will make a difference. Remember, there are 1000 recipients of Gates, all of which are AA, asian, Native American or Hispanic. The odds are good for many of you. The scholarship will cover ALL unmet need at ANY school you wish to go to, and you will graduate with ZERO loans.

Okay, off my mommy soap box! :)

no it’s fine I don’t mind the mommy soap box. lol cause I just found this scholarship a week a go so it would help to give my teachers the heads up so that they have time ti fill it out. You have a lot of good advice. First in the questbridge forum no in here haha.

^^^^

Just hoping that everybody uses every available resource to help pay for college. :)

Doesn’t your family have to make 20,000 or less a year to qualify?

good luck guys!
cheering on!

[Pell Grant Eligibility](<a href=“Pell Grant Eligibility”>Pell Grant Eligibility)

This says most pell grants go to those with an income of $20,000 or less, but can be up to $50,000. You need to do the FAFSA4caster to know for sure.

I’m not eligible for a Pell Grant. :(

Thanks kryshel!

Oh and I see a lot of you guys talking about Ron Brown, Gates, etc., but you guys are applying for scholarships like the Walmart one, Simon Youth Foundation, KFC Scholars, etc., right?

I got accepted to Columbia ED! I’m so incredibly happy!

Congrats Coolbeans! Hopefully you, Denerd and others should head over to this thread, so the 2015ers will have a thread to follow next year
