Hey everyone! This is for everyone who has advanced in the Coca-Cola Scholars Competition. I just received notification yesterday around 7:00 PM that I'm a SEMIFINALIST!! :) So, please feel free to post any questions about the next part of the application including the essays. :)

Coca Cola Semifinalist in Arizona!!! did anyone notice that this year the procedure for selecting scholars are different than the year’s before? the committee first selects some finalists from the semifinalists and interviews the finalists at the end of January. Then, they will select the 250 scholars based off of those interviews. In georgia, all of the finalists will interview again to determine which 10 scholars get $30,000. I guess since the prize money is $10,000 more than last year, they changed the procedure…

semifinalist from washington! How many semifinalists were there last year?

i heard there were 2,200 semifinalists since there were close to 110,000 applicants, but this year the number of semifinalists is cut down to 2,000 b/c they only had around 100,000 applicants :)

Semi finalist in PA! Totally wasn’t expecting this at all, I’m so excited!

does anyone know for the awards section, do they want us to list how many years we were in the club or do they want us to list the year we got the award? i’m a little confused on that part…

ivyleager2081, when it first asks for activities and your positions, you check off how many years you were involved. In the next section with awards and recognition, you check what grade(s) you received it.

Hey everyone!

I was notified that I am a Semifinalist as well! :)

Okay, so a couple of questions.

A) Do you think CocaCola has access to our old applications? I have no idea as to what I put for half of those things, and I don’t want any discrepancies.

B) Do you guys have enough activities to fill in all of the blanks??

C) What do we do if we haven’t had any “advanced courses, dual enrollment or summer courses”? I mean, I’ve been through summer programs, but none of them were related to my grades.

Thanks in advance! And GOOD LUCK! :)

tennischicaxo, since we sent out applications to coca cola, I assume they have access to our applications. but, i doubt that they will look at them again unless something really stands out on your semifinalist application. they might want to check for discrepancies then.

i filled in all the activities for the school activities section, but i left some blank on the other sections. if you don’t have any advanced courses, dual enrollment, etc, you’re not obliged to fill them out. However, if your summer programs gave you letter grades, then you can put them on the application :)

Hm. Now for the essays, it says that we need to “stay in the space provided”, but for some reason, the way its formatted on my laptop makes it so 250 for each essay will g

my bad^ *go over one page.

Kinda confused about these instructions. It’s the same with the 500 word essay.

for the top ten list, are you actually supposed to list out everything on the list in the essay or are you just supposed to create a list at home, and then expand on #4 in the essay?

shannon123, I figured that they’d want to see the list?

i thought so at first, but then how we would format the list onto the document? should it be horizontal or vertical? after much thinking, i think that they want us to tell them of what our top ten list is. for ex.) my top ten list is singers, and the number 4th singer on my list is …

before i sent in my initial application, I took pictures of every page, so I should be good. but i was wondering if they look at our initial applications for more information if I don’t have enough space to put all my activities/ awards down?

When they say top ten list, what do they mean? Top ten what? Careers, dreams, life-goals, bucket list kinda thing?

@awesome300, Anything. Just be creative and show who you are.

Still wondering about the “fit in the space provided” statement?

Advice, anyone?

And how strict do you think the 250 word limit is?

Do you guys know if the 500 word limit includes your top 10 list? Or does it start from your essay about number 4?
