2014 Decisions

My son received a call from his Stevens admissions counselor today, who told him he is indeed getting a merit award! @jibler, @rualum, thank you for your reassurance. With people in this thread reporting such generous awards, it was kind of a bummer when his acceptance letter did not mention anything. My son has some really great options on the table already, and now Stevens is high among them.

20K Scholarship a Year; 1790 SAT 3.8 GPA

My son applied ED and received the full tuition, Neupauer Award and admission to the Scholars program.
ACT: 35 4.0 GPA

Pikabhu congratulations. Looks like he did ED1. I always wondered if they awarded that particular scholarship to ED candidates. Interesting!

Also, did he have a good EC? (not many post for Neupauer. I think they offer 15 - 20 and they said about 1/2 of those attend).

Has he decided on Stevens?

Congrats, Pikabhu!!! Great accomplishment!!

I wonder how many get offered the Neupauer Scholarship.

BTW, it appears that a deposit was due by January 10 if it was ED I and by March 10 if it was ED II and you are supposed to withdraw all other applications at that point:

Oh yes I forgot about the ED commitment in my excitement ha.

dadinator I asked them how many get offered Neupauer- think it was in the 15-25 ballpark, and they said about half accept.

Thank you!
Yes, he applied ED1 and was offered the Neupauer right away. He fell in love with Stevens the first time he went there, which was in the fall of his Junior year. He also went back for Junior Day in the spring.
He did do an interview during the summer and, when the Stevens Rep went to his High School this past fall, he found the time to go down and meet her.
So, needless to say when he got his package he was thrilled and his deposit went in the next day.
I honestly thought that there would be no good reason on their part to offer a full tuition scholarship to early decision students because they are already pretty committed.

Rualum: I agree, not many post for Neupauer, so hopefully this will help:
Academic Stats:
ACT: 35 composite…Math: 36, Science: 36, Reading: 36, English: 32.
AP US Hist: 5, Statistics: 5.
SAT Subj tests: Math: 800, History: 800, Physics:770.
SAT scores: 770 Math & 730 Crit Reading.
Senior Classes: AP Calc BC, AP Physics C, AP Chemistry, IB Economics, IB Computer Sci, English
EC:
No sports or music or huge, flashy volunteer/community service.
However, he did hold a job in a local business for three years and he tutored kids in his class in Math for free whenever they asked him.
Just a good, solid, hard working kid.
I hope that this will help.

Interesting, Pikabhu. My older son got Neupauer and he had same SAT score total, similar Senior classes, and 1 long-term EC and tutoring but no job/no sports.

He had applied RD and going back I would still have him apply RD because looking through the awards on this thread, I can’t seem to figure out any pattern except that they give the highest awards if you have very strong stats. If you are in the 1800-2100 SAT ballpark and 3.8UW/4.5W range, it’s a mystery how they determine awards.

No RD response received yet - as of Saturday the 22nd in Atlanta.

Do they have any fun at stevens or is it all work?

@cougheedog im in massachusetts and i havent gotten anything either

Still nothing as of today (24th) in Atlanta. At what point do you call…??

im waiting until april first rolls around and then ill give them a call

You can call your admissions counselor if you want. They said they are notifying until March 31st but I know it is hard to wait.

Here’s my stats because I forgot them earlier…
SAT: 2290 superscored
ACT: 34
SAT II: 790 M2, 780 Chem
Junior year: APs-Chem, Stats, Lang, APUSH, French
Seniors year: APs-Calc BC, Lit, Psych. Dual-enroll physics and argument
Competitive dance, competitive figure skating, mock trial captain, figure skating instructor, student government, nhs
Did a prestigious program at the FBI
