2014 Fall UCSD Transfer Decisions Thread

@RCLA325

I received my admissions packet yesterday in the mail. I live in San Diego, but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. Hopefully you’ll get yours soon too!

What the hell did I just read lol

@smltk1505h - Though the Personal Statement review for students who have extraordinary circumstances, or who have been through hardships and are still persevering is not explicitly stated on the UCSD website an admissions officer did tell me that it is used when those circumstances occur.

(That being said I’m sure it’s not weighted as heavily as UCB but it is a good size factor according to the admissions rep.)

Also she said that they will not be taking PS into account ** For Admissions** if your circumstances are not considered as being disadvantageous to your life and/or academic success. So if it’s about extracurriculars and other stuff you need to rely almost 100% on academics.

Lol what happened on here last night jeez?!

@CollegeDropout1 Thanks for the information. I did contact a UCSD representative in my area yet she was unable to convey that message across.

@Matt4200 It might just be that I am a little paranoid about my application. I was a solid 3.8~ student coming into last summer, and the classes I took to get ahead totally boned me because the professors sucked. Ever since then my GPA has been falling as I go up the ladder of course/sequence-difficulty. (Not due to it being hard, just lack of good professors at my school to teach these subjects). I am just worried the downward trend of my GPA might affect the decision, even with TAG.

Dude you’re good even without TAG almost a 3.5 is a good GPA for UCSD people get in with 3.3’s every batch

You think so? I sure hope so.

I applied with a 3.255 and I’m pretty confident I’ll get in if that helps.

Hey!
I’m a UC to UC transfer and I applied with a 3.5 GPA and it’s slowly going down (quarter system sucks lol). I am super nervous because I know UC transfers get the least priority and I was heavily relying on my personal statements and additional comments. So nervous. I want to transfer UC’s due to personal circumstances at home…
If any of you know if they read the additional comments after the personal statement plz let me know!

A majority of the applicants (in this thread) accepted so far have at least a 3.5 GPA, with a few exceptions. From last year’s thread, most applicants below that GPA got waitlisted or rejected. A few did have a chance to get in though.

Hey guys just joined CC. I’m super nervous about getting into ucsd. Currently waiting for a decision
Major: computer engineering
GPA: 3.5
TAG: No
Honors certified and completing igetc with my last class this semester

Any opinions on my chances??

@Ameezus hey man I applied with a 3.61 for Structural engineering, and I did the same stuff as you minus the honors certified. I think you’ll get in. I don’t think I will though cause I am half indian/half afghan, and I heard they accept mostly white people.

@Javaleno: that’s silly! there are many Indians living in SD and going to UCSD!

@Javaleno I’m Palestinian and Syrian so I guess well see

DECISION : accepted, on March 16th

UC GPA: pre-fall grades: 3.88 post fall-grades: 3.75
Major Pre-reqs Completed: Yes except POLSCI 30 which is not offered at my CC
Intended Major: Political Science - Public Law, I’m in a good position to go for a double major in USP.
However, I’m going to wait 2 quarters before I decide to petition for it.

Extracurriculars: Volunteer American Red Cross, Volunteer East Bay Regional Parks, Ultimate Frisbee Leagues - coached youth/played divisional, VP of school Soccer Club 2 years, AA in Administration of Justice, Work: 15-25hrs/week.

Additional Details: I have a ridiculous number of Withdrawals. 9 total. I am definitely not going to get accepted into any respectable graduate school but I’m ecstatic that UCSD let me sneak in. I suppose I wrote a convincing essay and I’m also in line for completing 66 semester units at the end of this spring semester. Don’t lose hope guys!

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes, but I’ll never get anything from the Feds. Sticking with scholarships.

btw have any of the accepted students received their Admits Packets via good old snail mail?

hmmm the decision portal is down… maybe a new batch incoming? Damn I love fueling speculation.

Thanks @oldtransfergirl for the heads up,Ive been checking the mail daily and I received my welcome packet today. That also answers your question @elane2260 , yes I just received my admit packet today and received my acceptance with the recent first batch.

@RamonaFalls that made me chuckle in real life.

@ajama9 yeah, I’m that transfer student you’re talking about. how do you KNOW you’re right?

I applied with a 3.06 GPA and pretty darn good personal statement, no TAG, none of that university link, whatever. I had TINY hope of getting into UCSD. I’ve gone through a loooot to get to where I am now. I am obviously REALLY fortunate enough to get in. stop raining on people’s parade with facts you think you “KNOW”. Give people some hope, dang.

I think the first week of April is what lots of people in this thread have been saying, and messiahanne you give me hope! at least a little haha.

LOL I stopped checking the portal. I just visit this thread now, instead of logging in to the portal. First week of April is next week! SO SCARY.
