Most of the MT freshmen I know were happy they weren’t in any shows first semester, which was quite overwhelming enough. My son felt that way, but was very glad he was in a production second semester because it enabled him to use what he was learning.

Just FYI: Those Rider numbers include transfers, according to my S. They’re listed in the MT class of '18 but not all are true freshmen. I’ll try to find out the breakdown.

I suppose this is another thing all schools do differently but what is the difference between a transfer and incoming freshmen? Do the MT credits from other schools transfer to some university’s but not to others?

There is one transfer at Otterbein for MT but that class size is still 8. Why can’t any of this make sense to me? lol

At Otterbein, transfers start over as freshmen. There are 2 in the class of 2027, both for acting–one started as a BA theater at Otterbein and then decided to audition for BFA, the other transferred after doing a year at another school (still BFA acting). I know they both have advanced standing for things like the housing lottery and didn’t have to repeat everything but did take the core acting classes with the freshmen and are part of that cohort.

Not sure how Rider handles - I suppose case-by-case based on experience and whether or not they were in another BFA program. I know there were transfers there this year who seem to be considered sophomores. If they have some GEs they may be ahead of the true freshmen. Again, I’m sure it’s case-by-case.

Oh lord…please remind me to wear my serious reading glasses next time I’m on CC! definitely too late to edit that, so I thank you sincerely for the correction! (Wonder if it’ll push people’s buttons over on the thread about “recruiting”…)
