2014 MIT Early Action Countdown Thread

Ok everyone. It's November 2nd, so all the EA apps are officially in! Now the wait begins. Fell free to rant about anything pertaining to EA admissions.

Only 42 more days.

Awesome .

I wonder if the 42 thing is intentional, given it’s MIT. :o

I would not get your hearts set on a particular date just yet – the admissions office has not released decisions on a consistent date each year, which you can verify for yourself by checking the blog archives.

Last year, decisions were released on Dec 15, and this date was announced on Dec 8.
In 2007, decisions were released on Dec 15, and this date was announced on Dec 10.
In 2006, decisions were released on Dec 9, and this date was announced on Dec 1.
In 2005, decisions were mailed on Dec 9.
In 2004, decisions were mailed on Dec 10.

So it’s fair to expect decisions in the vicinity of December 15, but you will not know the exact date for sure until some point in early December, because the admissions office will not know the exact date for sure until early December. If I were a betting woman (which I am not), I would guess that decisions might be released Saturday, December 12 or Saturday, December 19.

41 more days? :)

i’m going to be so freaked out during that 1-2 week period where the decisions might be released. i wish i could just not go to school during that time, since there is NO way i’ll be thinking about my classes.

what about you guys?

we’ll see .

I’m determined to not freak out. Actually, I’m pretty sure I’ll be on winter break by then, so I plan on rebelliously sleeping in on the day the decisions come out.

…

Or, um, I’ll wake up at 4 and obsessively click the refresh button until my brain leaks out my ears. Oh, what a pretty image.

hmm…seeing as my birthday’s on December 10th, It’d be pretty weird if the decisions are released on the 10th.

are decisions emailed or sent out via snail mail?

Neither. For the past few years, decisions have been available at a website where applicants can log in with their MyMIT accounts.

EA: Does MIT review the the applicant’s file, if the SATII’s are still pending? This assumes that all the rest of the file is complete, including interview/transcript, etc.

No, McGreggor said elsewhere here on the board that they wait until the file is complete to start reading it. There are plenty of applications to read in the meantime, so it all works out in the wash.

I’ve been pretty determined not to think about MIT too much. So far I think it’s working, but I’m sure once the decision approaches you’ll be able to find me hiding in the basement.

I just finished my MIT application process today, since I had my interview yesterday and I retook the science test today, but I’m still pretty calm. However, I know I’m going to be a total mess from around December 7th until decisions come out. I’ve tried to convince myself I’ll be rejected, but hope is such a nice thing to have.

I’m assuming MIT is everyone’s first choice?

Heck yes. =d

top 10 lol, jk… not sure but definately top 3

Top is MIT or Princeton,

Getting both (let alone either) is the impossible part :/

If I get in, I’d have a pretty difficult time turning it down, especially with an opportunity to play baseball. With that said, if I am deferred I will definitely apply to some other schools (Princeton, Stanford, CalTech, RPI, et cetera).
