2014 question

I am applying OOS for the class of 2014. Everything should be submitted electronically by September 15th.

SAT-1350
GPA-3.76
Class Rigor-pretty hard (5 AP's at end of senior year. 3 AP's soph/jun. with one 4 and two 5's)
Private school, white, Maryland
Decent extra curriculars, good essays and recs.
essentially nothing bad, but nothing that WILL get me in.

two questions:
1. evaluate my chances

but more importantly (the real question here)...
given that my app should be in by Sept 15th, how long do you think until they inform me of my acceptance or rejection? Is there a good chance I can find out in November, since I am submitting everything so quickly? If I am not accepted, can I resubmit my application for the spring?

Finally, I am taking the SAT again in October. Hoping to get 30 points better. obviously i will rush the score in. Will this delay the process of my finding out at all?

Good GPA but your SAT is quite, quite low.

Getting your stuff in by September 15th you should hear in October or November, but can be as late as end of December if they’re iffy about you.

kp, his SAT is fine isn’t it?

Did you take the old SAT? I don’t understand the SATs in general very well (so please correct me if I’m wrong) but if you took the old SAT, then the 1350 (out of 1600) should be fine for UMich. I’m assuming you took the old SAT because if you got a 1350 on the new one (out of 2400) that’s like a 20 on the ACT?

I’m sure he meant 1350 for the CR+Math, not for all 3.

I’m guessing that SAT score is a 1350/1600? What is your total score? Well if that is the case then I think you have a decent chance at being accepted. It might be a slight reach since you are OOS, but I think it can go either way. You also go to a private school, which helps in the admissions process. If your SAT is a 1350/2400 then major reach.

Well Michigan sends out batches of acceptance/deferrals for most early response applicants. You should receive your application at the latest in December, but from what I’ve heard, they send out acceptances as early as October/November.

If you aren’t accepted, I doubt you can submit an application for the spring semester. Only applicants that are allowed to do that are transfer students and students that are applying for the first time. Also, Michigan doesn’t usually send out rejections early. Most students either get accepted or deferred. In the case that you are deferred, you will have to wait until January, February or sometimes even April to get your deferred results back.

Rushing your scores will probably delay your decision if Michigan hasn’t made one already.

yeah 1350/1600.

Not too hot on the Writing actually. Only a 620. Hopefully they dont get too hung up on that part of the app, a lot of colleges overlook the writing.

I will take the test for a third time. Hopefully these will be my highest subscores:
CR-710 (score from 2nd time I took test)
Math-670 (score from 3rd time I t
ake test)…(otherwise 640)
Writing-650 (score from 3rd time I take test)…(otherwise (620)

there is no chance I dont improve the Math at least 10 points.

So after reading my application, you think they will wait it out and compare it to everyone elses since I am pretty middle of the pack?

I saw on the 2013 decision thread that a whole lot of kids from the waitlist didnt even compare to me. So im hoping they let me know right away since it is my first choice…

U of M doesn’t super score so they won’t care about your highest sub scores. You’ll probably find out later (closer to Christmas) since your stats are borderline for an OOS student.

yosup,

so that means that Umich will evaluate my application based on my highest score from a single test sitting?

yes. If you’re not accepted how hard is it to get in for the spring term or transfer after the 1st semester?

There are classes you must have taken in order to transfer. Even with several APs I doubt you’d be able to get them all done in 1 semester (better shot at 1 year though). Atleast for transfering into Engineering, but I imagine it’s mostly the same for LSA.
