2014 RD Applicants

Is all the notification being done by snail mail? Because I am getting so impatient haha… so many people seem to have gotten theirs, but not me :/

waitlisted. 31 act 3.89 gpa, didn’t show any interest, fairly bad supplementary essay. I’m shocked I wasn’t outright rejected- I think my writing supplement saved me. Congrats to all those accepted =)

my son was waitlisted. disappointed. 2110 SAT. 3.8 GPA (unweighted) – lots of AP classes. Scores of 4 and 5 on AP tests. 770 on each of two SAT subject tests. We’re from the west coast. He is interested in political science – liked the idea of being in St. Paul. Waiting on several other schools and he has one good option where he’s already in.

I got my letter today and I live in New England… and I was accepted!

I like Macalester a lot but I’m not sure if I’m gonna attend in the fall; I’m (impatiently) waiting on all my other applications…

EDIT: I guess I’ll add some stats here if they’re helpful to anyone… around a 3.5 GPA (ewwww), 2360 SAT, 35 ACT, etc, etc, etc. If anyone wants to know more, feel free to PM me.

Accepted in California! Its nice how fast the mail came! I had 2050 sat and 3.9 w GPA. I think I got in because I speak 5 languages

“They sent me about five letters notifying me of my missing Mid-Year Report in January and I’m like…“I know Mac…my semester isn’t over yet.””

LOL, same. i was like, w t f?!

btw, rejected, as of today. i knew as soon as i saw the envelope. i thought my ECs & essays might save me, but i guess not :</p>

For those who got their letters, when were the letters dated? Do you think Mac send decisions for domestic and intl students at the same time? I’m intl T__T

dated march 17th. i’m in nj. hope this helps, at all :/

D got in and I thought their acceptance letter was great. Really showed how it’s a personal place. Not sure D will go though, but it’s not because she (and I!) didn’t love the school. Good luck to everyone!

Accepted yesterday in Southern California! Letter dated March 17th.

SAT: 2210 (730 CR, 740 M, 740 W)
GPA: 3.7 UW, 4.15 W
No Class Rank
Year-long study abroad + other good ECs

For those of you still waiting, the envelope isn’t a big big envelope, but it’s bigger than a normal envelope and it says MACALESTER YES on it! Also, no financial aid info yet.

EDIT: By the way, I’M SO EXCITED! I <3 Mac

rejected! unsurprising, but i am tempted to call them and ask them if they liked my essay because… well i did? anyway my stats were WAY low so it’s no surprise.

my one question is… what am i supposed to do with the 7 pounds of mail i’ve gotten from them… and the course book, seriously, why on earth would you send out a course book to 5000 applicants…

first of all, i agree about the mail thing… i got sooo much mail from them.

anyway, i’m accepted! my (shortened) stats are as follows:
gpa: 3.98 w
SAT: 2010
ECs: 4 years of 2 varsity sports (awards, etc.), yearbook were the main ones

…so i’m pretty sure i got in based mainly on my essays (which i must admit were pretty good, i may suck at science and math but i AM a good writer)… i guess being so involved in sports helped too, cause my basic stats don’t seem much better than people who were waitlisted

also, i pretty much showed no interest (even though i really like Mac and it’s one of my fave schools haha)… i didn’t interview or visit or anything… so i don’t really think interest played a factor in the admissions desicion.

so yea congrats to other people who got in!

My DS2 is thinking of applying next year, and has not visited. He is also from the East Coast, with stats similiar to those above. What made the school attractive to you? For those of you from the NY Metro area who visited, any culture shock?

anothermom3: I was attracted to Macalester for two main reasons. I knew that I wanted a small school, and it’s one of the few LACs a) in a really nice urban area and b) that truly practices what it preaches, so to speak, about international education and opportunities. I visited, and on top of all the rational things I already mentioned that I liked, it simply felt right. It was urban without being hipsterish/pretentious (yay Midwestern nice!), the students were active in politics, art, and their communities, and in general, they seemed smart and nice and like they wanted to make a difference.

I’m also from New York, and while Minneapolis/St. Paul definitely feel smaller and more cohesive than NYC does, they still feel like substantial cities, with downtowns and museums and a bit of a faster pace than most of the other Midwestern collegetowns I visited.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to PM me!

is macalester need blind?

S received his acceptance today! He also got a very nice merit offer. :)

I GOT IN!!! I’m so unbelievably happy!!

I have to agree with everyone who has said Macalester sent out a ridiculous amount of mail this year… I got my acceptance on Saturday, and then today 3 more SEPARATE envelopes came from Macalester!! I appreciate the gesture, but what ever happened to being environmentally conscious?

waitlisted:(

Still no results!!!i am freaking out…
