While what everyone says above is true (CC is not representative, and there are plenty of people at MIT who are not superhuman masters of amazingness), I think it’s also fair to say you shouldn’t apply if you can’t handle the idea of being rejected – the vast majority of applicants to MIT and other selective schools are rejected, which is a reflection of the limited size of these schools, and not of the goodness and smartness of their applicant pools.</p>
