2014 Revists

When I was at Exeter, most of the visiting kids were dressed up.

@GMC2918 How Was your Cate Revisit on Friday?

The Cate visit was fantastic! I don’t think that our opinion of the school changed at all - DD still loves it. Distance is still a concern, as well as the fact that it’s not as well known on the East Coast (vs. her other choice, Milton, which we will revisit tomorrow).

@GMC2918 I wouldn’t be too concerned about Cate’s name not being as well known. I’m a current student, and when I went college tripping last spring break and wore my school hoodie I got no shortage recognition by the Admissions Officers I talked to. Granted, it is mostly known on the west coast, but Stanford, CalTech, UC Berkeley, Pomona, etc. all knew us quite well (USC made a big deal out of it too). Besides, our matriculation for this year should be coming out in the next few days, and it should speak for itself. But hey, Milton looks great as well! I’m glad you liked your revisit!

@GMC2918, I am glad that your daughter liked Cate. It is a great school with beautiful campus and happy people. It is as well-known to college people as NE boarding schools.

@Thisonekid, Are you going to be a senior this Fall? I wish you all the best and have a great final year at Cate!

@GMC2918 So how was Milton. Only 2 more days!

@msclvr0970‌ thanks for asking! The Milton revisit was fantastic. My DD loved the classes and the kids. She’s very torn however, because I think that she loved Cate equally. It’s difficult because the two schools are so very different, and she would be making a real lifestyle choice. Coming from a NYC private school, she felt that Milton was more familiar, and academically similar to what she’s used to. It’s closer to home obviously, and more well-known to her East Coast friends.

@‌Thisonekid - The informality at Cate (especially in the classrooms, where she said the students were more laid-back and maybe not as participatory?) troubles her a bit. She’s not sure if that’s just part of the culture, and therefore something that she would get used to? Or is it one of those outliers, which maybe isn’t representative of what her true experience would be? Similar to getting a “bad” tour guide - you try not to let that color your impression of a school, but it does creep in. I think that given the added distance and resulting expense, Cate would not be an “easy” choice, so the bar is set a bit higher, if that makes sense at all.

We got home late last night, and she’s at school today hopefully giving her brain a rest from weighing her decision. She has put so much effort into this process, and she’s really trying to think everything through. She knows that she needs to decide tonight.

@GMC2918 That’s definitely not normal. I’ll PM you.

@GMC2918‌ Have you made a decision?

Yes @‌mrnephew - Cate! Sorry to have been so slow in responding. It was a very tough decision and we went back and forth many times. Two great options, but very different “life” paths, as well as the added stress of leaving friends behind at our great K-12 school. Phew! I’m sorry about those who are on the Cate WL - I sincerely hope that something opens up for you. Please let me know and stay in touch, because I’m really cheering for you!!!

Congrats! Cate’s a beautiful school.

@GMC2918 Great news!!! Hope to meet you in August!

Thanks! My daughter is very excited, although I’m sad about her going so far away! I think that it will be a great experience for her however…

We are on the East Coast as well. I feel your pain!

@‌GMC2918

I am very glad your daughter will be going to Cate School. I guess your daughter has made a very good decision.
The long distance is something that you should cope with. But after some periods of adjustment, you will be all right.
Living away from my son by Pacific-long distance, I wish it was 3k miles.

@patronyork I will indeed be a senior. After the first trimester (the ultimate stress test with school and college apps) they say it is all smooth sailing. Can’t. Wait. Thanks for asking! I hope your son is having a fantastic time at Thacher :)

Yay! Glad you decided on Cate, @GMC2918!

Yes @RuralMama, we are all very excited!!!
