I only like math when I fully understand it. Which is why this past year of calc bc kind of shook my relationship, badly. Thinking that much is just too painful… unless its for Yale =D then bring it.

I did my SATs in june, luckily got a score I was content with. How’d you guys do? You don’t have to share if you don’t to. But I’ve still got SATIIs, in october, and ACTs in september.

Demi, you are so lucky you live so close to new haven! I swear I would drive there and just lay on the grass like every day xD although that might make it even more painful if I don’t get it x.x ugh, bipolar thoughts. my name and username are sorta interchangable xD… then again I’m not the only one xP

I can’t really classify myself as a math/science/english/history person. Basically, I’m all over the place. Hahah I’m not a science person but other than that, I don’t really see myself standing out in any subject…hmm. quite sad. It’s probably because I like too many things and such. Whooo knows. Maybe I’ll find out in college. It’s hard to determine based on high school classes. They’re nothing like college classes (not that I know but just assuming haha)

I’m taking my SAT in OCt toooooo! Stupid CR. And as long as I don’t make dumb careless mistakes, SAT math SHOULDN’T be bad. Then again, I say that every time. And then I make like 2 mistakes and there goes lke 60 points. hahahah. CR just kinda bugs me. I wouldn’t mind writing an essay about the passage but the fact that I’m answering MC questions over it just bugs me. No idea why. But I’m pretty pleased with my score…not as high as I would like it but it’s very decent so not that much pressure. Just determination to do better.

I WISH I LIVED CLOSE TO YALE. Yes yes yes pictures plleeeasseee. =]

And that SUCKS about the ID thing. We aren’t THAT strict. As long as you have some sort of photo that identifies you, you’re good to go. I know 2 people who forgot and just grabbed a yearbook. But I know the lady in charge of running the SAT/ACTs at my school (my english teacher hahahah) so no worries about ID problems.

DEMIIIII. Just read your Why Yale short answer. Check yo PMs.

isbeenreal—COMMEEE BAAACKKKK. I feel super embarrased leaving a mile long post without you.

Lanaesque–No more SAT IIs for me Thank god those are over with. Didn’t do well on Lit (690) but I doubt I’ll retake it. I got 3 others I’m very happy with (MathII…yall I hated this test…USH, and Chem). But who knows, maybe I’ll retake Lit in Nov or Dec or something in time for RD apps. For now, just SAT in Oct. I always think about taking the ACT but at this point, so late into the game, I don’t want to learn a new format and everything. I’m so used to the SAT and I’ve already got score I’m quite happy with. Sooo SAT it is!

How did you find USH, Smile? You think I can do OK on the test if I just memorise the book? 690 is a decent score I’m hoping I have Lit sorted as I already did A Level English.

demiitasse, check your pm, pllleeeeeaaase tell me you got my rather long reply about your why yale thingy, the computer went wierd when i clicked send and i’m not sure if i can retype the whole thing again

ugh not done my sat I or sat IIs soooooo jealous :(

Portugueseninja, I found that USH wasn’t too bad, but there were a few details that threw me off (random ones, like this education reform one that I never learned about lol!) but generally most of the things were either decent questions or free ones (the cartoon questions are THE BEST :D)

for those who took USH, what do u reccomend as a good study guide for it? - for someone who knows NOTHING about ush, so it can’t just be a review book, it actually has to teach me everything =(

PN (I will make abbreviations for all of your names, and that is portugueseninja’s): Yess, there are quadratic equations/functions on the SAT, then. There’s actually no factoring on the SAT, and all you will need to know is how to look at and understand quadratic graphs (so graphs of functions containing x^2) but it isn’t as complicated as finding the zeros, using the quadratic equation, or even finding the roots. It’s veeeery straightforward.

This is THE BOOK for SAT Subject Test and AP Exam review for US History. It’s easy to read, but contains ALL of the requisite information without being overbearing. It’s technically designed for the AP test, but it will give you the content better than any Princeton Review or Barron’s book. If you’re desperate for some practice tests, head over to sparknotes.com and use their “free trial” thingy over and over and over again with fake, made-up email addresses (they never ask you to confirm them).

AMSCO: Buy it. Read it. Know it well.

(And good luck to all of you applying too; I hope to see you all in 2010!)

Thanks Rocker, that’s a little more comforting knowing that the really tricky stuff isn’t on it.

solittletime, I’m in the same boat (absolutely NO knowledge of USH whatsoever… I’m using Sparknotes because they have a whole study guide online for free and I’m finding that very informative. And from reading reviews on Amazon.com and the study book recommendations thread on CC I saw many good things about Kaplan so I got that and it’s suiting me well. I was a little worried about getting an AP book in case it told me the wrong things or too much that I don’t need to know.

I recall hearing excellent reviews about AMSCO all throughout CC, and I have absolutely no knowledge of USH. Maybe you should look into it just in case… I probably wouldn’t buy it, but perhaps they have it in a library? I sort of doubt that, though… SAT books are hard to come by in the libraries here, and we aren’t even on the other side of the Atlantic.

Yes, I can vouch for the AMSCO book as well. It is so amazing-well written, lots of cool tips on how to write/structure DBQs and FRQs, and just interesting. I actually didn’t even have enough time to get past the WWII in great detail, but it still is a great book.
I really liked the SparkNotes stuff (all the practice tests, AND their review notes).
Oh, and this was my favorite thing for the SAT 2, REA CRASH COURSE!!! Really, it was so brief yet so detailed (the important ones), and it’s very well tailored to the SAT 2 (and AP test as well, but it was amazing for the SAT 2).

“but perhaps they have it in a library? I sort of doubt that, though… SAT books are hard to come by in the libraries here, and we aren’t even on the other side of the Atlantic.”

They don’t even sell SAT books in stores here! Well, maybe there’s 1 or 2 in the huge bookstores in London or somewhere but that’s about it. I’ll have a look into the REA one though, maybe I can get it from Amazon.

OK, time for bed, I have a super productive day planned tomorrow. Night y’all! :)

USH…god I thought I did horribly on that test just because there were some weird questions about really specific stuff that tooootally threw me off. and there were like 80 questions (…correct me if i’m wrong…this was like a year ago)?? in an hour?? so when I got the 800, I thought they mixed that up with my Math II hahahah.

I used Kaplan for the SAT USH after using REA to study for the AP exam (first AP exam ever hahah. good times.) but REA was just too long for the quick touch up review I wanted before the June SAT and I really liked Kaplan. =] Never heard of the REA Crash Course…it that completely different than the normal REA??

Great things about AMSCO on CC though…

and portugueseninja (i think?)–yes yes 690 is a totally decent score. haha just very very average compared to yale/CC standards :)

Disneyguy–AHHH CONGRATS ON YALLEEEE!!! Feel free to offer any advice =] hahahah.

I’ll be gone until Tuesday yall! And school starts for me Wednesday (SENIOOORRSSSS!!!)
let’s hope I get some work done on my CommonAPP essay and supplement essay before then haha

I’m on board for SCEA as of today!
My only concern is the majority of weight in my high school academics is in my senior year. While my junior year was me getting through the basic requirements.

Other than that it’s nice to meet you all :)
