GPA: 3.2
Hours Completed: 42
College: San Antonio College
Area of Study: UGS/LA

I have two great essays along with tons of work experience and two great letters of recommendation. I definitely conveyed what my main thoughts were to applying at UT along with how I improved my GPA from being at A&M my freshman year with a a low GPA. My recommendations are from a history professor that loves me along with my district manager from where I work. What are my chances that they would even consider me?

Transferring from: Baylor University as a Sophomore
1st Choice: Exercise Science 2nd: CNS undeclared
Baylor: 3.31, at UT: 3.15
Hours completed: 30
Number of rec letters and who wrote them 4 letters of recommendation: biology professor from Baylor, health education professor from Baylor, high school basketball coach and english professor from Baylor
Varsity Basketball and Varsity Track all four years of high school, at Baylor I am a member of African Students Association, and AMSA; LOTS of volunteering because of these organizations, play intramural basketball and flag football at Baylor, work at a gym during the summer
Essay A: what happened when I messed up at Baylor and how I bounced back
Essay C: Why I want to go to UT so terribly and how being there will help me meet my educational goals as well as provide a sense of diversity (which Baylor does not have)
Essay E: having faith and a sense of optimism is vital to success

NOTE: I did terrible my first semester at Baylor (2.8) due to many circumstances I spoke about in my essay but second semester I got a 3.95.

Med: I don’t think for CNS will concentrate on your Calculus grade. I would be more concerned with your general science courses if you go in undeclared. If you were in an actual major that dealt with math, then I would recommend it.

Dyeobli: a 3.2 GPA is pretty low for UGS, because of the competition with incoming freshmen. I’m assuming you’re applying for Language Arts? If that’s what you indicated with LA. Try switching to COLA English or something, they accept more lower GPAs with well roundedness, which you have. Also be sure to have A’s in your language arts classes that would count towards your major. I think if you switch colleges, you’ll have a better chance than choosing UGS, but that is just my advice.

Baylorgal: I’m so glad you’re deciding to leave Baylor! (I have always disliked Baylor!) anywho, exercise science I believe is in the CNS? If so, your GPA depends on how strong your science courses are. I commend you on your bounce back from a rough patch, UT loves to see improvement. You even took the next step in always reccommend to students who had a slip up in the past. One tip I advise you to be wary of, is in your essay do NOT slam Baylor in a negative way. Just express that Baylor was not for you and that UT will be because etc. I think it would turn UT off if you slam the school you’re at because it can come off as a “whiny” essay. Just look out for it! Otherwise, I’d say pretty good chance with CNS.

DeeGeeErbear: LOL! Ya it’s not a bad school. Primary reason is it is INCREDIBLY INFLATED. I’m not exactly rich. Exercise Science is actually in the College of Education. I took Bio 1 my freshman year and my teacher was absolutely terrible. I literally taught myself the material and wound up with a C I took Bio 2 second semester though and wound up with an A. In my essay, the only thing I said that would be a little mean is that “I felt like I was part of a homogeneous mixture where everyone seemed the same”. :/

I went and saw an advisor last friday and let me tell you, he was very discouraging. but then again, he has no idea the admissions worked and how they make their decisions, but they are not very helpful. Any who, I just switched my first choice to CNS undeclared because I can see myself in there instead of COLA, and I put my second choice as UGS. LIke I said I have a 3.44 GPA with progression each semester I made a better GPA. Do I have a strong chance for either choice? I know the Spring is more selective but I still think I have a competitive shot with that GPA my excellent essays and 3 recs and a good amount of ECs. I made a Strong B in my chemistry class would that hurt me?

DeeGeeErbear, This is my first time applying (I’m a freshman with a lot of AP credit) as a transfer. I have been moderately active on the UT forum board however so you might recognise my screen name from that.

Thanks for chancing me! Hope to see you next spring!

College GPA (from Notre Dame): 3.81
Credit hours: a lot… around 40 or 50?
Currently: at ACC
Applying to: Liberal Arts as a BS in Psych OR Social Work
Female
Hispanic (don’t know if that stuff matters really…)

Also, I am in-state. I was out of state for 1 year (Aug 2012 to May 2013) when I went to Notre Dame, but other than that I was raised in Austin, TX since 1997, my parents are TX residences, etc.

Don’t know if resume matters a lot, but I’ve worked w/ AmeriCorps and Boys and Girls Club, both in Austin. Done lots of community service and extracurriculars.

Just finished my app and I’m so nervous!!! I REALLY wanna get in. How good are my chances? Also, my essays are all right. I didn’t put a bunch of effort into them.

My statement of purpose is horrible. My 2nd essay is good. I hope with a good gpa and my 2nd essay, I’ll be able to pull through for Jan :D. Next time, if there is a next time, I won’t procrastinate on this SOP. If anyone could read my SOP real quick that would be greatly appreciated. :)

wait if you already have over 30 hours do they take this current semester in as well? because that wouldn’t make sense because we would have to send in another transcript as well… my brother transferred a few years ago and actually heard back way before his semester was over with? I’ve heard two different things, can someone clear this up for me?

Sufjanlover1: why did you leave Notre Dame? That’s a fantastic school! But UT is obviously better. COLA psyche is really easy to get into, so you should have no problem with a 3.8.

Korsgaard: I can read your statement of purpose if you like.

Bobcat20: if you already have over 30 hours you could be hearing back anyday now. You will have to send in your hours after this semester, however to transfer the last of your grades if accepted.

DeeGeeErbear: thanks for chancing me I am so nervous. makes me feel better. Did u go to ND? I was being all dramatic and like “Oh Im going to go to a uni far away from everyone!” and I ended up missing home, my family, everything about Austin. South Bend sucks. And the people at ND kinda sucked no offense to any irish out there.

I went to Texas State in San Marcos! It’s just not everyday you hear of a Texas resident going to Notre Dame! It sounds like a cool school, but then again idk much about it

Does anyone know how long it took before your application from applytexas showed up UT mystatus website??? Was it immediate? Because I still need upload my resume and stuff and it won’t let me until they get it… and I’m submitting the applytexas app tomorrow

Also my school reported that my transcript has completed it being sent to UT but it doesn’t show up on my application. Does that take more time?
