2014 Spring Transfer Thread

So as of right now i have a 3.23 wiht 39 credits but after this semester i should have around a 3.41 with 51… Im applying to COLA International Studies and for my second I’m still deciding for either Undeclared for UGS or Computer Science.

Chance me!

DeeGeeErbear:

As of right now I have a total GPA of 3.42, but there is a study course at a community during my senior year of high school that I took and didn’t know it counted so that brought to a 3.39. I have over 60 hours of community service while being in over 6 clubs in high school, 3 year football lettermen with a couple of awards, and 2 clubs in college, as well as being a chairhead for community service that helped cancer patients by renovating their homes. I made a 3.0 first semester, then a 3.3 the second semester, and during the summer I took a whole semester and got a 4.0… does that progression prove something, and does it play a factor in the decision? I must admit I have very well written essays due to my brother being a writer and editor out in L.A… Also, I have two recommendations, one from my communications professor at my university and one from the VP of PING cloud securities. I applied to COLA- undeclared as well as my second choice- UGS. I was wondering if y’all could tell me my chances? I really think my essays will help my alright GPA. Chances?

correction: the study course does not transfer its a 3.42.

CutieAmber: I need more information regarding how your essays are structured, your resume (activities/jobs withheld), and letters of rec! Those increase your chances of being accepted, not just your GPA.

Bobcat20: While your GPA could be a bit higher, UT LOVES to see progression in grades over time. I made a 3.75 my first semester, then upped it to a 4.0 for an over all 3.84 GPA. With all of your extracurriculars, it definetly helps! Make sure you have great letters of rec, preferably 3, and well written essays. Those are the keys to getting in, NOT JUST your GPA!

thank you! also, if I’m transferring to COLA and I was in the engineering program at texas state, do my engineering classes like concrete development and residential autocad not count towards my gpa that they look at because it is not in the COLA curriculum or undegraduate core curriculum?

DeeGeeErbear: 3 really good Essays
Worked 30+ hours all of freshman year and I am current really involved in student organizations and also part of a Dance team. A lot of extra curricular activities with over 300+ community service hours.
I have not yet sent in recommendations but i will in the next couple of days!
Im just really concerned about my GPA since its lower then the average…

Bobcat20: hey I transferred from Texas state too! And your overall GPA will be considered for your transfer. UT will however, see how you fare in the liberal arts courses such as language and English. And possibly math. So strive for good grades in those classes, because UT wants to make sure you are strong in the major you choose. But, GPA is an overall glance for an admissions person.

CutieAmber: thank you for your credentials! I now see that you’re involved and that’s awesome. Do your essays express your strengths and plans for UT? And as for your GPA, COLA is really flexible. It is the easiest college to be accepted into. Keep striving for a 4.0 this semester, because that’s what I did I brought up my GPA and UT loves to see you improve.

DeeGeeErbear: Ill most likely make a 4.0 this semester! Thank you! Appreciate it:)

Just to share some stats from a friend of mine that was accepted to UT Austin for Fall 2012 as a transfer student:
She had a 3.6 GPA from a community college, and is now studying health promotion under kinesiology for the School of Education. She had no extracurricular or volunteer activities from her freshman year of college, and no recommendation letters.

i called admissions and they said they generally accept more people during the fall and are much more lenient. spring is really tight so they take the most most most qualified.

Anyone get their decision yet

Hello! I have a very urgent question and I would love you to chance me! I am an out of state student at soph. level.
My GPA is a 3.94 with 43 credit hours under my belt. I am in honors and I have good ECs. I got three amazing letters of recs and one from the director of a company in San Antonion. I am applying for Government and my second choice is italian. Could you please let me know what you think!!!

UTAdreamer: congrats on a great GPA! A 3.9 is super commendable. If your essays are great, and your 3 letters are as well, I’d assume your chances are really high. The only thing that sets you back from the rest is you being from out of state. UT really prefers in state students, so the acceptance of OOS students is even slimmer. The GPA for an out of state is average like a 3.9-4.0, which you have. Lastly, I’m assuming your transcript shows that you have taken history and government classes? To apply to a major in a specific college, you have to show that you have taken coursework for that major, and succeeded at it. (A lot of students only apply to COLA because it accepts more on average. Then they wish to transfer internally, which is super difficult.) other than those two things, I’d say you have a better than most chance of becoming a longhorn!

DeeGeeErbear: Thank you so much for responding. I am very nervous about acceptance because I am out of state. And yes, my school considers government as political science but it is considered the same at UT I was told? So yes, I have received straight A’s for my major and minor, which is italian.

UTAdreamer: it seems your pretty set, but I’d say your chances are high. Government is not the most competitive major, so I’d say you’d be fine! Just relax and keep doing what you’re doing!

Here’s an interesting link.
[12th Class Day Enrollment Reports | Office of Information Management & Analysis](http://www.utexas.edu/academic/ima/enrolreport)
It shows 12th class day enrollment numbers at UT. The second report -Undergraduate Enrollment by Current Mode of Admission, College and Gender- breaks down the mode of admission. There is some overall drop in the number of transfers between Fall and Spring each year. But, a good part of the difference in transfers between Fall and Spring is due to McCombs not accepting Spring transfers, at least from junior colleges. Communications, Jackson, Nursing and Social Work also admit very few transfers, Fall or Spring. Latest posted reports are from 2011.

Well, that’s good news knowing liberal arts isn’t one of those colleges that don’t accept many people!

Just found this! Been stalking every transfer thread to a UT for a couple years now lol. Glad I’m finally a part of it!
Info:
GPA: 3.85
Credits: 52-ish
EC- Mentor at a Middle School, Booster Club, Highway Patrol training volunteer
Other stuff mostly mentioned in essays: Lived/helped dad start a company in Romania (crazy right?) and I’m a veteran.
No ACT or SAT

Good luck everyone!

Djdizzled: what are your essays like? What are they about? What school are you coming from and what’s your major? It’s too hard to chance you based on GPA alone and extra curriculars. Also how many rec letters and who wrote them for you?

EVERYONE:
If you want to be chances, follow this format from last semester’s thread:

School transferring from
Major and college
GPA
Number of rec letters and who wrote them
List extra curriculars

This is more organized format and how my thread from last semester was structured
