2014 Transfer Chances

Hello, I am wondering if I am a competitive candidate to transfer to Boston College. Currently I am a freshman at a Top 75 University currently as an undecided student.

I finished my first semester with a 3.94 taking the standard 15 credit course load

Currently taking 16 credits:
Comparative Gov. and Politics
Creative Writing
Intro Sociology
Calc I
Astronomy + Lab

I would be applying to CAS as a Political Science major. My letters of Rec. should be good

I have many ECs from High School and right now am involved with intramural sports

From a private prep school I had a 3.4 UW GPA with an upward trend along with a 1750 SAT score.

How much is my low test score going to hurt me?

Any Info would be greatly appreciated. Would it be more beneficial to apply next year to distance myself from my high school record?

test scores don’t matter for transfers.

Good luck.

That’s not always been my experience. Can you give more background for your view?

a college must report all test scores for matriculating fall Frosh; not so of transfers (or spring admits). Thus, an adcom may think twice when admitting a below mean Frosh, whereas they’ll have so such hesitation for transfers.

bluebayou:
While that may be true, schools like BC, with low transfer acceptance rates, can use test scores as another piece of information to differentiate applicants.

^^sure, and they could use grades in PE if they want, or performance in theater as a criteria.

Of course, everything in the app folder is fair game, but unlike Frosh, where tests scores are one of the ~5 items of vitally important, for transfers, test scores are just another piece of paper in the folder. OTOH, a really low math score and a below-B college Calc score, would definitely give pause for a CSOM finance wannabe. But note the test score in this case only validates a low Calc score. OTOH an A+ in college calc, and no one will care about the test score.

Hey, you’re right. Our stats are similar.

What university are you at? I’d love to discuss the process with you as it comes down to the wire.

Best of luck

How early should the mid term report be completed and sent it? My school doesn’t have formal mid term grades.

sent in*

as soon as they are available Johnny.

You can always just gen up a one page grade sheet with several columns: each class, teacher’s name, mid-term grade, and a place for each teacher to sign. Or something similar, and have your GC sign, fax or mail.

So having the mid-term grade sheet filled out in mid-late February is what you would advise?

Thank you @bluebayou

absolutely send mid-term grades, (if they are all great).

Hi, I am currently enrolled in Unviersity of San Francisco, got a gpa of 3.68(16 credits), toefl 102 , act composite 26, will I be able to get accepted to CSOM Boston college for fall 2014 or the chances are low?
thank you, need help here

Hello! Thought I’d throw my stats out here to get some opinions as well… Currently at one of the UC schools, total GPA for fall & winter quarter should be about 3.5/3.6. 2040 superscored SAT. Had tons of EC’s in high school, including cancer research and tutoring, etc. Also might have some family connections to staff at BC. Applying as Econ in CAS. My only concern is that my GPA for fall isn’t that great - only about 3.29 because of a B- in physics. Any thoughts please?
