2015-16 Production Schedule

Hi, has anyone heard of next year’s production schedule at any MT (BFA or BA) schools? We would like to schedule a visit to coincide with a show. Thank you!

The best thing to do is to go to the school’s website and do a search on performance season or something similar. You can Google too.

Otterbein’s isn’t posted online yet, but here are next year’ production dates as currently planned: “Rent” 9/24-10-3; “Much Ado About Nothing” 10/22-31; Dance Concert 11/19-22; “Is He Dead?” 2/18-27; “Fiddler on the Roof” 4/7-16.

I agree that this would be great info for those of us who enter the madness this fall with our rising seniors.

There are two threads on this topic. Might close this one, since others have started posting on the other. Websites may have not yet been updated for next year, but “insiders” might be “in the know” already (the case at S’s school). Also might be nice to have many of the seasons posted in one place.

Montclair’s musicals are West Side Story, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, The Boys from Syracuse, and Triumph of Love. I don’t know when they are though or what the plays are. There is still time to visit this year and see Hair at the end of this month/beginning of next.

Wright State mainstage shows are The Great Gatsby 9/24 - 10/4; Chicago 10/29 - 11/15; A Streetcar Named Desire 1/28 - 2/7; and The Music Man 3/17 - 4/3.

I love this - but I can’t add an update yet. I do know that the Baldwin Wallace Fall musical will be “All Shook Up” - and it will coincide with the November audition weekend. But, I don’t have any more insider info than that. As soon as I know, I’ll update for BW.

@kategrizz - We are Dying to know what BW has in the works. D has a very strong belief that Heathers will be done at BW - if not this coming year, the following one. It seems like a show that is right in their wheelhouse. D is still hoping for some sort of miracle that she will be there to do whatever they do!

@gingersnap97 I know one school doing Heather’s next season - not one that gets talked about much here on CC - Oakland University in Rochester Michigan. I don’t know dates - but I have a professional musician friend who plays percussion for almost all of their shows - and he told me that they had secured the rights - and were pretty excited about it. Oakland is a program with a more regional draw, and if you have high stats - they have a very nice automatic scholarship.

I heard online (so take this with a grain of salt) that Sam French is currently only licensing Heathers to professional theatre companies, and that it would be another couple of months before the rights start being released to educational institutions.

Just so that I don’t completely hijack this thread, here’s Viterbo’s upcoming season (pending licensing agreements, of course). Dates are still in flux, so I’ve elected to list the shows by semester.

Fall semester: Oklahoma! on the Main Stage and Girls Like That by Evan Placey in the Black Box (I’m assistant directing the latter!)
Spring semester: Crow and Weasel by Jim Leonard Jr. at the Weber Center, Mrs. Packard by Emily Mann in the Black Box, Altar Boyz and Shout! in repertory at the Weber Center, and our dance show in the Black Box.

There are also a couple of student productions coming down the pipeline, but the only one that I know is confirmed is Steel Magnolias in the fall.

Updating with Ithaca (no dates yet), and added in Viterbo from @CanadianMTgirl’s post:

kategrizz, I think your friend must be mistaken. Oakland may have wanted to do Heathers but the rights are not available for college productions yet and it is not on Oakland’s schedule for the 2015/2016 season.

Rider is doing Catch Me If You Can as the early fall musical and A Little Night Music as the later fall (November?) musical plus there will be at least one play (tbd), a cabaret, a dance ensemble, and fall new plays. In the winter/spring they will do two more plays, another cabaret, spring new plays, a showcase for emerging choreographers, and Spring Awakening (end of April). Plus the MT kids are given opportunities to dance in Westminster Choir College Operas. Lots of performance opportunities at Rider

Not sure if anyone cares about the Canadian school, but Sheridan announced their season for next year: Damn Yankees, Grand Hotel, Legally Blonde, Sunday in the Park with George and two others TBA

Grand Hotel is one of my favorite shows- a gorgeous score and so many great roles!

Roro, I care! I go to all their shows! Michael does wonderful things with those very fortunate students at Sheridan.

Not a school that is typically discussed here but heard this morning about a show a friend is directing this summer in conjunction with University of Wisconsin-Madison and then a remount in the fall as well. It is Fugitive Songs by Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen, a fabulous song cycle. I hope I can see it! These UW-Madison students are very fortunate to have this Tony winner teaching and directing at their school. She’s a gem.

The line up of musicals at Sheridan is a really great variety!

@alwaysamom…go Karen Olivo! (heard about that today too)
