2015-2016 Coca Cola Scholarship

Other semifinalists…have you gone on to the application website? It is giving me all sorts of errors. Maybe it’s down right now?

I would notify EA/ED schools if you make it to the next level, not this one.

@ssjr16 I agree since this level is computerized

@Archlion
Here are my stats
Ranked 5/562
President and Founder of Various Clubs as well as VP for others
State soloist for band for two years
International Competitor for Future Problem Solvers
Member of a National Ultimate Frisbee Team
Head of A/V production at church
Small Group Leader at Church
State Champion for Academics
AMC school winner for two years
Etc.
I think there’s more but I forget
Also like 500 service hours
I’m surprised that I got in myself!

Not a semifinalist. Congrats to everyone that made it to the next level!

Semifinalist from MA!

@ssjr16 If they posted that info then they would have far less applicants and it would not be as prestigious of an honor.

Just like colleges, they like to advertise the selectivity of it. If they posted the minimum stats they would likely end up with the same winners because they realize they are competitive but with less applicants it’s appears not as selective.

Semi-Finalist from Nevada!

I didn’t think I would get it. I think they put all the “top” candidates in a randomizer and just pick 2,000 because some of you have way better stats than me. Also my location might’ve had something to do with it! NE kids are unreal compared to some states out west… haha.

Some people asked for stats:
Class rank: 1/441
GPA: 4.0UW/4.8W
Extracurriculars:

  • Founder of FAR, which raises funds to support in-need art programs around my city
  • Key Club: VP, District Leader Team, Regional Editor, Distinguished Recognition, District Committee, Graphics Department, …
  • lots and lots of hours of volunteer work. probably 400+ hrs
das it, really. I don’t think I listed any of my other hobbies/ecs.

No sports. No music. No fancy competitions.

Yeah

Does being a semifinalist/ regional finalist or whatever kind of finalist help your college resume/ app?

@Archlion

Semi from MD

Rank 2/340 4.0
Pres/Founder 2 Clubs
Pres Other Club
VP 2 Other Clubs
Minor leadership 3 other clubs
Student rep for minor county level government board
Handful of debate national and state awards
1 Varsity sport, captain
County Volunteer of the Year
~450 Volunteer hours
16 APs
3 Internships (1 was paid lab research position)

Congrats to everyone! Didn’t make it, but I think this will prepare me for the actual college rejections down the line lol

Do all of the semi-finalist notifications go out at the same time or is it a rolling notification?

Are we sure the computer picks? If it was based on numbers, I certainly would not have been picked. Pretty shocked I made semi finalist in California considering my less than stellar stats.

3.75UW / 4.1W (exactly 10%)
200 Community Service Hours
1 Varsity Sport (Captain)
Multiple Clubs (Leadership in 2)
2 Leadership Seminars
3 Internships (not mentioned)
Some other pluses that I can’t remember, but I know I had a well rounded app. I’m just confused because so many of you seem so much more qualified and by a lot.

Very grateful and congrats to others!

@crusader2016 did you just receive the email

This scholarship seems like its random

Except that the winners every year are pretty amazing students. Top kids.
I think you are trying to compare stats… “stats” weren’t even asked for in the application. It was filling fields. Numbers of leadership positions, numbers of national awards/recognition. The first cut seems to be volume related. Stats mean little. My school doesn’t even rank. But if you have multiple leadership positions in athletics, music, service, award recognition, over multiple years. Those are who advance. The next cut decreases again the pool by 90% of those who are semifinalists. And the SF application is worse than any college app!

Has anyone from Florida received a response yet? I still haven’t gotten an email and its killing me ;-;.

When your stats are A1 (3.8 GPA, a bunch of extracurriculars and leadership, Questbridge Finalist, and 1200+ volunteer hours), but you didn’t become a semifinalist. But, it’s okay; congrats to everyone who became a semi-finalist!!!

@mediapr hey I emailed, they are having issues with the system. they said the celebrate tonight and just hang tight until tomorrow

@TheMak0 Omg youre from FL too! Then maybe they just have gotten to us yet, because Im in FL and havent received a response either.
