Didn’t think the MCA threshold would go this low for an engineering major!

I think MCA is capped at 5000 points, distributed as follows: 2250 for GPA, 1650 for SAT/ACT, 750 for class rigor, and 350 for work/ECs. See the beginning of the Confused about MCA thread for exactly how to calculate it.

@mariplusplus - Congratulations!!! I am so happy for you!

You can go over 5k with bonus adders, but they cap off at 5k.

Oops - big edit. Since my son’s MCA looks so low for Engineering - I went and double-checked the calculation.

We had not given him points for his 4th year of lab science (assuming AP Env. Science counts). Adds 100 points. Still low-ish for engineering, but I don’t want to be the one that blows the bottom cut-off score calculation.

MCA should be 4462

@Ballerina016, I don’t think you did. Do you mind going to post #52 in the confused about MCA thread and recalculating? Every data point will help. Thanks!

@eyemgh you are right. I didn’t know about the cap at 5000. In this case she has 5000. She has maximum SAT, GPA, years of science and English, bonuses for major related work. The only bonus she did not get was for a second year of art.

Hope it was helpful.
Computer Science major.

@Ballerina016, that would still not net 5000. The only way to go over 5000 is to have non-academic adders like being from the service area or being the child of a Poly employee. Perfect SAT, 4.2 GPA, maximum rigor points, 20+ hours of ECs per week with leadership and 20+ hours of work per week in a major related area adds to 5000. If it isn’t a huge hassle, would you mind recalculating?
