I’m not a member of this site, but I payed a lot of attention to it when trying to gauge my chances of getting in. I only thought it fair that I post my decision, since this website has been a pretty valuable resource to me over the past few months. To everyone that got in, congratulations. I look forward to meeting you next year. As for those of you who were denied, remember that at this level of college selectivity, it is really more or less a roll of the dice whether you will get in or not. Keep your heads up, because I am positive that some other equally great college will accept you somewhere.

Humanities Rec: Excellent. The last recommendation this teacher ever wrote, and he said that I was his favorite student at one point.
Other Rec: My Latin teacher voluntarily wrote one for me, but I don’t know if they received it.
Counselor Rec: I imagine that it was good, but not sure.
Interview: My mouth got really dry, and that was kind of embarrassing because it was my first interview, but overall, I think it went very well. The woman seemed very interested in what I had to say. I was very enthusiastic about the college.

Other:
State: MD
School Type: Small Private.
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Hooks: I made a concentrated effort to communicate with the admissions staff. I am not sure if this is because it is such a small school, but they knew me by name by the end of the process.

Reflection:
Strengths: Extracurriculars, general interest in many subjects (liberal arts)
Weaknesses: Low GPA
Why you think you were accepted: No idea. As excited as I am, I see the applications that got denied in this threat, and really wonder. I think this college looks for a very specific incoming class, and it is really close to random as to weather you get in or not. I think that I am very well rounded, and that all of my extracurriculars may have helped.

General Comments: To any juniors reading this, or seniors trying to figure out what their own chances are at Mudd, do NOT lose your soul to this process. Try to take it in stride, and don’t sweat it, because that won’t help it one bit. During my process, I was very un-confident that I would get in, but fate had other plans. A lot of the kids on this site will seem ridiculous and out of your league, but don’t pay them any mind, because, believe it or not, you may very well look just as good as them on paper. This website just has a way of distorting things sometimes. Good luck to everyone waiting on their decision, and I can’t believe that I am finally a member of HMC class of '15. It is truly a dream come true.
