How is the Yale Young Global Scholars program? In my opinion it seems kind of expensive.

Also considering applying to Launch and Endevvr! The price makes me a bit uneasy, but they seem like amazing programs.

I am a little confused. Is this a business summer program at MIT? Or it is science related program?

@seal16 Neither. It’s a business incubator program. It isn’t directly related to MIT, but I think the founders are graduates of MIT, and some MIT faculty support it.

Hi I went to Endevvr last year

I’ll be open to answering questions! Also Endevvr just announced today that this next session will be held at UPenn.

Good luck in applications.

@hellagucci

Yay, thanks for being here. Two questions:

1) Could you give us your stats and additional application info (as in ECs, not home address lol).
2) Do you still work on the company you started at Endevvr?

I know a ton of people ask this, but what is the difference between endevvr and launch? Are they both extremely similar?

@Orangebananapeel Same program, operated by different people. I think there are little differences, such as location and date.

MIT Launch is a full program of MIT, operated and run out of the university, which is a differentiation for this program. You can learn more at http://launchsummer.org/

@mitlaunch what is your relationship with the program?

What is the purpose of having an early and regular admissions process?

Hey @woandering, it’s good to see you outside of the 2014 Dec sat thread. Is it quite strange that there isn’t an essay required for the application but rather 10-50 word “short answers.” Or am I just missing the essay section in the application or is the 10-50 word short answers pretty normal for these programs? This is for Launch btw

@dallascowboys1

I can’t find any other essays either, so you’re probably fine. Since it is so short, just turn it in a little earlier to give you time to write an essay if it notifies you of the missed section.

@hellagucci @woandering Do you guys know if there is any business background is required? I’ve never had much exposure to business related stuff but I am highly interested in this program.

@dallascowboys1
It’s definitely a plus, but I’m not sure if it’s required. I don’t really have much business exposure either, comparatively. Try to get involved in some start-up non-profits. They will take anyone passionate, and you can learn on the job.

any tips on the endevvr video?

How long should the Endevvr responses be when describing the EC activities?

@Woandering

Answering your questions:
- 3.93 UW GPA / 4.26 W GPA. EC’s: Varsity swim x 3 years, small private orchestra for 3 years, Academic League, Mock Trial

I didn’t believe they asked for my standardized testing scores last year.

2) Yes I am still working on the company I formed at Endevvr. I know some teams are actively still working on them, and others have stopped completely.

@dallascowboys1

I didn’t have any business experience prior to Endevvr. I would say less than 1/3 of the attendees had any experience with business beforehand. This number may be very off though lol.

On a different note, here are some key differences between Endevvr and Launch:

Endevvr is a smaller program (which to potential applicants may be more or less desirable). Last year Endevvr had one five week session with twenty two students; on the other hand, Launch had two four week sessions of around 40 students. There is a massive difference in that itself.

The location of the two programs are also very different. Endevvr this year is at UPenn in Philadelphia, while Launch is at MIT in Cambridge. These two locations have very different startup communities that I recommend applicants to do their research on before applying.

This year, Endevvr costs ~$6600 while Launch costs ~$6000. However, Launch is a four week program while Endevvr is a five week program. I have heard from past Launch alum that their meal plan incorporates less than the Endevvr meal plan (as in they have less meals per week), but this is unconfirmed. Applicants should probably email the respective programs to find out more about this as it can lead to large differences in cost.

Four weeks vs Five weeks may not seem to be a huge difference on paper. From talking to past alums and my RA’s from last year, I have learned that it is a very big difference. The extra week allows for much more flexibility and time for students to really get their desired outcome.

In this post I may have insinuated that Launch is worse than Endevvr, but please do your own research and find out for yourself which program is right for you. They are very similar programs but their differences are quite large. I advise applicants to find out more by emailing the programs themselves, and more specifically about the technical specifics and fundamental mindsets of the two programs.

If anyone has any specific questions, please send me a private message. I will continue to keep replying to questions in this thread that I have not covered so far.

@hellagucci
Thanks so much for your help! I can’t private message you yet since I’m still new the the forum. It sounds like you are very knowledgable about the programs as well as business in general! Did you feel

that the program was completely worth the money and time you put in?
