Right @MTDadandProud‌, it’s a years long tradition for CMU to call. It’s like a right of passage for the lucky few. I sure hope they aren’t changing that.

MTDAD & GSO - I learned of CMU’s admission notification policy via phone call to admissions office this AM. The person answering was who I spoke with. She appeared confident in her description of the process although she never acknowledged that this change is a significant departure from past practice. It could be that she is simply unaware that MT and Drama BFA accepted applicants are treated differently than the general applicant pool.

I am not sure why that is a rule. There are several “lists” threads and commenting is allowed on each. As long as the comments deal with the topic of the thread, there shouldn’t be a problem. It makes absolutely no sense to comment on a different thread about something that is relevant to this thread. Too many rules, and inconsistency in enforcing them is going to drive posters away. I, for one, value what everyone has to say, not just a select few. I can’t imagine a better place for finding out that CMU may be changing its notification method than in the “2015 MT Notification Methods…” thread.

I think the idea is to keep this thread on notification methods…maintain and update the list and comment on the topic itself, but not replicate the other threads on acceptances, rejections, congratulations, and general discussion. As mentioned in the first post, let’s try to keep this thread about notification dates and methods. I think discussing CMU’s notification method would make sense here too…thus questions/comments should be fine, if it is information about the topic at hand.

As an aside, I don’t think CMU is truly changing its notification method for its BFA program.

What about the schools that have rolling admissions? People want to know that information too as it helps them plan out their audition order to try to get some early yesses. I think next to those schools there should be an asterisk or some other way of identifying them. Otherwise the list only provides incomplete data and is not as useful as it could be. Providing early decision/early action dates of decision notification would also be helpful for those schools that have them. The more comprehensive the picture, the more helpful it is.

The point was to have one list that is not cluttered with multiple dates. Regular Decision applicants ask (nearly perpetually) when they will hear when people heard last year, how they will hear, how people heard last year, and so on. That’s who I made this list for.

I know I was looking for this information and got frustrated that it was all over the place. The acceptances threads include tons of data including the data points you are suggesting should be added here. For my eyes, it’s just too much information and I glaze over. I’m old.

As a practical matter, I can spare the time to keep correcting and updating this very simple list but I am happy to pass it on to someone else to maintain in a more detailed manner. That will, essentially, consist of copying all the data in the acceptances thread and aggregating it here, which is a big job that leaves you with two identical lists. The moderators might object to two lists with the same content but I’m happy to step back.

As far as rolling admissions go, the answer in all cases would be “They’re rolling.”
