2015 Spring UMD Internal/external Transfer to Robert H Smith School of Business 2015

Since there isn't a forum on this yet I am going to start one.

I am looking to internally transfer into smith school of business next semester.
Since I couldn't find any online statistics on this and the acceptance rate, I wanted to ask if anything who has done this before post their GPA and what they wrote on their essay!

Could any prospective students post their GPA and your intended business majors here?

Also if someone could chance me please do!
Cumulative GPA from UMBC 3.67
UMD GPA - 3.3 (after taking one summer class)

I am in the same situation like you or kind of worse.
I want to internally transfer to B.School.
My UMD GPA is 2.87
Overall GPA is 3.6

By the way, Jamiewong, you probably have really good chance to get in as I heard from the advisor that if you have more than 3.5 GPA, there is high chance that you will get in.
I am really worried since I took accounting 1 and Micro economics at UMD and got GPA of 2.87 for those 2 classes.

Would appreciate if someone can provide more information about it since I am really worried about getting in to Business School.

Thanks man. I think we will be ok because I went to the LEP advisor today and he told me they look at your GPA from all the institution you went to. If you cumulative GPA is 3.6 combined then I think with good references and essay you will get in!

The LEP advisor also said the acceptance rate is 70% and the average GPA is around 3.6

Have you finished all the gateway courses and are you apply for the spring semester?

@jamiewong‌ thanks for reply. and i went to LEP Advisor as well. and he said we would be ok but he did say that my UMD GPA could be an issue. and they might look at our midterm grade for current semester(as long as midterm grade is good- guessing they would like As).
and yes, i have finished all of gate way requirement and applying for spring 2015 as well.

Oh that’s really good to know. Let’s work hard this term then, I am going to do my best to get the best possible mid-term grade then. I really want to get into the business school.

Which major are you applying to?

i am intending to apply for info system/finance. and lol i already screwed up my midterm grade in two of my classes…
hope we both get in.

Hi did you guys get in?

Yes I’m in The business school now doing finance and IS

Solid! I just applied and getting my decision this coming month. I do not like the uncertainty but I have a 3.62 at the CP campus. Did you have a lot of leadership/extracurriculars when you applied?

i have a 3.3 from umd im a sophomore internal transfer but I am told to apply next semester so i have a 3.5 what do you guys think bc they look at your grades the same way nov.1 and march 15. However, is the applicant pool larger in nov or march and which one would you recommend for me?

@Fashioninterest1 - Smith is one of the few, and maybe the only LEP, that is competitive for internal transfers. Basically, they have more people applying for internal transfers than they have space for. Therefor you want to apply with the best GPA you can get, cause that is what your competition is doing. Good Luck.

Same issue here. Do I take the risk? I’ve been direct admit to other very nice biz schools, but I like UMD. I think I can get the grades, but they say even if you do everything they ask, you may still not get admitted if there is no space available. Shady Grove is not an option
