For people who did the phone “interview”, how long did your calls last?
If it helps any of you that got turned down, i got rejected from wow but got into the college. I start in a few weeks.
@DressingIron yes, I got a fee waiver even without getting into wow.
Does anyone know when they will announce who has been accepted for the August deadline??
I feel like I have been refreshing my email inbox every 10 minutes for the past week
@nattyy305 you should expect a decision by mid-September. It took about 3-4 weeks for the other deadlines.
Oh okay, yeah because decisions came out last year on August 25th I thought they would be this week
Did anyone do the phone call yet? Any tips?
@lovechemistry391 it was really chill haha. It’s non-evaluative and purely for the sake of receiving feedback on your app or general questions about Williams. That being said, have lots of questions prepared!
Decisions for August deadlines are out… I was rejected, but didn’t get a fee waiver? Well, congrats to everyone else who got in.
Did you get any information about receiving feedback via phone?
Just got the email for the August deadline. I was accepted! It said that I can choose between the September and October dates, so I’ll likely go for the earlier one.
Who here is attending both WOW and DIVOH? Williams was so kind to offer to pay my transportation between the two schools and my home.
Yeah same (for the October dates)! Williams will be arranging the travel between the two schools
That’s great! We might run into each other on campus then! @canunot
I was very surprised I got in because I don’t have the best test scores or GPA but I guess I had a really good essay. Anyone else going in September? Also does anyone know the chances of getting into Williams after being accepted into WOW?
@scl1248 apparently they accept 70% of WOW attendees.
I don’t know where the 70% number is coming from, but here’s my stab at it:
So basically, from this (http://communications.williams.edu/news-releases/3_26_2015_admits/) source, we can see that for the class of 2019, Williams admitted 116 students who had attended WoW. Now, there’s two possibilities: if the 2019 program had 150 students – like the WoW programs in earlier years – then the acceptance rate for WoW alumnae is almost 80%, but, if the program in 2019 had 200 students – like the one this year – then the acceptance rate for WoW alumnae is only about 58%
If that 70% number is right, I imagine that it must be because some of the people that go to WoW don’t apply to Williams; maybe some of them get in to their first choice school ED, maybe others visit and decide Williams is not for them.
Unless you have a good source for that 70%, I wouldn’t put too much stock into it.
The 70% number was cited based on a post from a previous year’s WOW discussion. I think it’s high enough to be beneficial, especially to an ED applicant. Participating in WOW doesn’t hurt, and with the high acceptance rate for WOW participants, it means that Williams admission officers consider them worthy applicants.
@gebo342 I think the 70% number coming from /another/ CC post doesn’t seem to improve things that much; a CC post isn’t really that accurate a source, after all.
I also think that that 70% number is likely to be unrepresentative for some WoW applicants. For example, for a student who’s URM or has another strong hook then I think that 70% figure is pretty much on the money. For a student that’s white or asian, I think that figure is not as representative of his or her chances.
I just went to the October WOW program and they told us at the admissions/financial aid workshop that of the people who went to WOW that apply to Williams, the acceptance rate is 85-90% <- super high
I went to the October WoW, and missed the financial aid workshop since I went on the long hike on Mountain Day, but I heard from everyone that Williams officials said the acceptance rate was 80%+.
