2015 Yale Waitlist Discussion Thread

Hi everyone on CC! I’ve been reading since a long time and you guys have been a great help. I just couldn’t resist but post and tell you guys about myself.

You’d think I am spamming by introducing myself, but, I am a fellow waitlistee at Yale. And I am still hopeful.

I am an Afghan currently studying in Dubai, UAE. I used to be a refugee, but things are a bit settled now. 'cause of lack of information and financial help, I wasn’t able to fully understand what AP or IB etc are and what kind of impact they have. Heck, I found out about the SAT a few weeks before the test. After taking these tests, I’ve fully understood the whole concept of how ‘American schooling’ is. FYI, I got 760 and 730 on the Physics and Math I, respectively, a 28 on the ACT, and a 108 on the TOEFL.

What I still didn’t grasp is why I have not been accepted. You see it’s not like I had the easy life, I know I know, everyone has their own story, but don’t I bring unique diversity?

For a guy who studied at an American school only for his last two years in high school. AND, still achieving the prestige of Valedictorian (five weeks ago I didn’t know what that was), and scoring good on his regular classes.

I had a perfect interview too. I am the president of the chess club, captain of the soccer team and a leader of the student council.

Why am I boring you with this? I just want to know from the highly knowledgeable and concerned parents and teens that I have had it all perfect and I still have the hopes, and it is not the end of the world for me either, But why?

Is my background not okay?

For God, for country and for Yale!
