It’s that time again! Please list your pre-screen acceptances- or acceptances of an audition date if no prescreen is
required when you have received a firm offer of said date. If you would prefer, you may PM me the information which keeps the thread neater, and I will be updating the thread at least once per day in the evening and listing the new entries in color. Please remember to let me know what your instrument or voice type is.
I’m new to CC, but my D is applying to popular music - voice and/or singer/songwriter programs. She’s applying to USC, NYU (Clive Davis), U Miami, UC Denver, Loyola New Orleans, Belmont and any other popular music programs we find. I know competition is tough so we may add conservatories later :(.
She will audition UC Denver on 12/2 and Loyola New Orleans on 12/3.
We are in the process of getting her videos ready for USC, Miami, and NYU.
@mznMom I will be glad to list your daughter is you would please tell me what major she is applying for at each of the schools where she has confirmed audition dates. Once I post them, editing must wait until the next time I update the list so I like to get it right the first time. Would Boulder be VP and Loyola be Singer/Songwriter? I only list them once you have firm dates, so pleas send me the updates (you can do it via the Private Messaging system here too!), Thanks!
@mznMom and @Mezzo’sMama I am jumping in here as well! Looking for info for college tours for my D who is a singer//songwriter and jazz vocalist. Berkeley and NYU Clive Davis top her list. Both UBER expensive. She spent some time at Berklee this past summer for a workshop and plans to spend the entire summer there for the 5 week performance workshop this next summer and audition for admission at the end. I want to look at some other schools for her as well. Loyola NOLA keeps coming up. Do they have a good program for a singer/songwriter? If anyone has any other suggestions on where to look that would be great. I heard U Miami but I really can’t find anything that is geared towards a singer/songwriter there unless I’m missing it.
Oh and we are from Michigan and she has zero interest in being anywhere in the midwest. We also checked out USC Thornton last December and she didn’t like it. I think she wants to be on the east or southeast coast. Thanks much!
@spartandrew:
Has she thought about Frost/U Miami? I don’t know how good they are on the vocal side, but they have a well respected jazz program (instrumental), a workmates brother graduated there on Jazz guitar and loved it.
@musicprnt yes I mentioned U MIami in above post. I looked all through Frost. SHe doesn’t want to niche herself with just jazz voice although ideally a college that she attends would have both songwriting as well as jazz voice. I may reach out to Frost to get more information. Thinking about a spring break trip to New Orleans to visit Loyola and Tulane. Not sure what Tulane has for music though… Then maybe a later spring trip to Frost/Miami. But everything points to Berklee being the perfect fir for her. Hoping not only for admission but some $$$ there for her.
We need to keep this thread on topic. If anyone has questions, please either start another thread or send a PM. As the season progresses, this thread will grow and many use it as a resource each year so I try to keep it tidy and manageable but I don’t have editing privileges, unfortunately, so I can’t tidy up. Thanks!
Thanks for this. Quick (relevant- I hope) Q. Do schools send out audition requests in batches by dates or by instrument? So if you see a school that you applied to, but haven’t heard from the school do you wait? Contact them? Does it mean you are out?
@beaglemom please ask your question again by starting a separate thread. It’s a good question but should not be asked on this thread. This is only a prescreening LIST. You’ll also get more answers that way.
I’d really like to keep this nice and simple but this year seems to be an uphill challenge.
@webby42 - I have no idea what your major is nor what date your audition is to be scheduled for. Please advise.
@dejabo - I need a date for your audition in February in order to include you in the list. Please advise.
Folks, PLEASE, help me out here. This thread and the Acceptances and Final Decisions Thread will get long, so in the interest of keeping them neat and concise, it would be great if you’d PM me with your info if at all possible (I get notifications of those right away too).
In order to include you in the list, you must give me the following:
INSTRUMENT or VOICE TYPE
UNDER GRAD OR GRAD STUDENT
you only need to give me those things the very first time UNLESS you are auditioning on 2 different instruments, which happens with some Jazz musicians or Composition Majors
SCHOOL (and please spell it out for me, we've had some confusion with abbreviations in the past!)
DATE OF AUDITION
I know you’re all happy for each other- and for each other’s kids- but just hit that LIKE button rather than posting repetitive “Congratulations”. Forgive me for being the Grinch, but I’m just trying to keep it simple for those who have set the thread to ping when something new pops in, and it makes it much easier for those trying to search dates in the future too.
