2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

Does anyone think that USC might reject me after accepting me and after I send my winter and spring grades. My GPA will probably drop due to me probably getting getting a D or a C in some Math classes

So I’m a 1st year cc student who ended up having to drop more than 2 classes my first semester that I had A’s in but still ended up with some D’s. I do have a 3.65(applying to Marshall), and I’ll hopefully have 64 credits done by the end of spring semester with all prereq’s and most GE’s done. I had a serious eating disorder that acted up in September and then incurred repeated short term memory loss throughout the fall. I’ve have had various creative writing ventures, am writing a tv show script, and am illustrating a book. Does anyone here know if USC would consider the extenuating circumstances and take more into account the upward trend in GPA? I only failed some GE classes and the rest of my grades are A’s, nothing crucial to admission req’s.

@JC10202010 I’m impressed with a lot of the counselors that have law degrees and such! My counselor just had his Bachelor’s in Business lol :stuck_out_tongue: I would have been more impressed if he had an MBA. Guess I’m just a little bitter still :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, and about your major thing, I applied as Linguistics (or I think anthro) as my first choice and sociology as my second choice and they admitted me for sociology even though I had very few sociology courses compared to the anthro courses I had taken (five including a linguistic anthro course). My guess is maybe try to apply for econ and business? Those would be the two majors I’d try. Going from econ to Marshall seems like a fair transition.

Hey guys I found like 2-3 capitalizing errors in my additional comments section of my common app after submitting. How big of a deal will this be to a USC admissions officer? I overlooked them when proofreading unfortunately.

@zettasyntax hi! Well I’m actually planning to apply to dornsife which is IR and global business or directly to Marshall as business and concentrate in IR. I’ve done the econs and business pre requisites but not the IR pre req. the courses that I’ve done which are probably related to IR would be history and sociology only. Do you think I will still be able to make it as an IR major?

@JC10202010 I have the same question as you too! Im afraid that my spring grades might drop a little after taking statistics and math :frowning: have you done all your required math courses?

@Yuanqii Sadly no, I have about three math classes to go before getting to Calculus. I am currently at College Algebra and I suck horriblly at it. So lets hope for the best, I guess.

anyone have any tips to offer about this essay?

“Describe your academic interests and how you plan to pursue them at USC. Please feel free to address your first- and second-choice major selections.”

Im stuck and unsure what to tlak about without repeating things i said in the main essay. Thanks!

@Yuanqii I would definitely think that you could make it into IR. IR doesn’t seem like a major that would have many courses at community colleges. I know that my major of linguistics has next to nothing offered at various CC’s in my area, so people would just take a bunch of language classes to show their interest  If you’re taking classes that relate to the major and have a decent GPA, I think you’d make it.

@chaseguy750 A few missing capital letters doesn’t seem like a big deal to me. I had a very hilarious error or two and it was okay. I think I added -ing to a word that didn’t actually need it, so the whole sentence was quite embarrassing.

This is going to sound really stupid but in what person and what tense are the “writing questions” supposed to be in? First second.? Im am using the first person and using both past, present, future tenses

How important are school-related extra-curriculars? I’m not really involved at my community college, but I spend a lot of time at my martial arts school training, instructing, and coaching a competition team. I have a 3.95 and I am applying to Marshall, which I know is competitive. Will my lack of on-campus involvement hurt my chances?

@zettasyntax thank you so much for the information! by the way it was stated at the website that students who get a certain grade in one of the IR pre reqs are allowed to apply to the major. But it’s not offered in my college, so am I only allowed to apply to IR once I complete the course in USC?

Might be a stupid question, but I read a couple posts on sending transcripts with your barcode on it, but I never got those, do you guys think I can just add my USC ID # by my name on the envelope or do they require a barcode?

Also, I’m taking a required Bus Calc class at a different CC for spring should I send a transcript from them too even if that’s the only class that is going to be listed on it?

Thanks!

Wait, I didn’t even know USC gave applicants barcodes or IDs.

@JC10202010 The ID is on any booklet or paper they send you

I never got one

@JC10202010 I started getting some after I started my app, you could just call admissions and get yours if you need it

What should I do if I sent my college transcript in but I switched two of my classes around for this semester afterwards? Would I have to send another official transcript or is that something I can call and let them know and send an unofficial?

Don’t want to have to pay to send another :frowning:

Is Internacional Relations one of the more difficult majors to get into? I’m a sophomore applicant so I can put “Open” but since I already took a bunch of business courses it might seem fishy that I’m not selecting Business or another related major as my major. I’m probably going to get a C in my College Algebra Class so I need to get into one of the easier majors. Thanks

Greetings everyone! First time poster, long time lurker haha. Just wanted to wish everyone luck and good vibes as i’m filling out my application now, USC is the only school i’m applying to so wish me luck!
El camino Community college
-Applying to Marshall as a junior
-3.93 cummulative 4.0 transferable
-Will have all prereqs and GEs except for 1 done by the end of spring.

One question, I know the Application is due by Feb 1st, but when is the deadline to have all of your college/highschool transcripts sent in? Do you send them in after you submit the common app? Thanks in advance.
