@masterblitz71 same boat, they actually sent me an auto rejection when I first submitted my final transcript because it didn’t show some of the AP credits I had that pushed me past the 30 hour requirement. Got that all squared away though, have been in review for about 2 or 2 and a half weeks now…juuuuust waiting
@UTMccombs2017 Mccombs
@ajaxo710 So I’m certain they will take it into consideration, but you have to remember to weigh yourself against other applicants. So far on the thread we have seen a 3.88 and a 3.91 get rejected, both with pretty good EC’s and LOR’s. While you still of course have a chance with your circumstance helping, it’s probably not the most likely. However I am no admissions counselor, and I may be extremely wrong. I am in a somewhat similar situation myself (4.0 in college but DC from high school drsgging me down) so the only way to really tell is once decisions come out. Best of luck to you.
Are ya’ll speaking from an external transfer standpoint or internal? @UTMccombs2017 @ajaxo710
@houstonian2017 @ajaxo710 External, for me anyways. If you are an internal transfer ajaxo, your chances are considerably higher.
Yea, I’m an internal transfer and have a 3.76. Pretty close to the cutoff from last year, so I’m hoping they care about my previous internships-- Too close for comfort though. Hope yall get in!
@houstonian2017 Oh man, I figured all internals had heard back already.
@ajaxo710 you can get a letter of rec explaining your struggle and how it affected your school and how you can be a good asset and whatever else
@ajaxo710 from a counselor or someone so they will at least recognize it. I have chronic issues that affects my school (not a life threatening) but if you reach out there are ways to have them recognize
Next to last update guys. I will do one at the end of this week if this is actually the last week of decisions. Good luck to everyone! Remember that if you have an @ before your name it means I am missing some info from you that could help others
This will come in two messages because its too long! lol

One last chance me/stat post before I (ideally) get my decision within the next couple of days.
-In-state
-Transferring from ACC, 33 Hours, 3.875 GPA
-First choice COLA Philosophy, second choice COLA Anthropology
-2 solid essays (in my opinion, talked about why I want to study Philosophy at UT + some personal background and how my studies will help my career choice in one essay and addressed the importance of personal growth and experiencing new things in college vs. focusing only on grades/numbers/being “competitive” with peers in my other essay)
-3 LOR, two from former UT professors (one taught history the other philosophy) and one from an Olympian who is my current track coach
-EC’s include being a volunteer track coach myself, working charity events + litter clean-up during high school (don’t remember the hours exactly but it was a good amount) part-time job (20hrs/week), running track at collegiate level (20-25hrs/week) (I trained and competed unattached this year and will redshirt on the track team at UT if I am accepted), Phi Theta Kappa member, awarded ACC Scholastic Excellence, AP Scholar
-was admitted as a CAP student last year but chose ACC route (so admissions has seen my name before), ACT was a 28 and SAT composite was an 1890 I believe…?
That’s about it. We’re almost there y’all!!
From a former admissions counselor at UT regarding McCombs transfers:
“So you’ll apply McCombs undeclared, and the admit rate is about 10%. And yeah, lots of people with 4.0s don’t find success. It’s just a matter of putting together your best application possible. It’s a crapshoot.”

@mccombs17orbust The link is broken but I assume this is the BlueLightspcl (Kevin) guy, or the old UT admissions councellor. Well, you have to remember that this could be biased for two possible reasons. First of all, of course 4.0’s get rejected because there are plenty of people who don’t have all the prerequisites completed. I personally knew two of them at UT Tyler alone. Similarly, they could be out of state and have very little competitiveness in any other part of their application.
Second and perhaps a little less obvious is that this guy runs his own admissions advising business that thrives off of people needing help getting into competitive schools. It is easy to exagerrate the competitiveness of a school when there is no statistical information out that that 4.0’s with all prerequisites completed actually have been denied. I have searched a lot and haven’t found one so far that was in state and denied; and that goes for any major. Not to say it hasn’t happened, but it is something to keep in mind.
@yungchildish your application is really strong. Definitely a good candidate for philosophy. And with a 3.875 I would honestly be surprised if you didn’t get in.
Also I posted my stats a few pages back but it got kinda buried with other stuff but I wanted to see what you guys thought
Applying to Moody RTF
3.893 GPA
Good EC’s including being a part of the University film alliance this year
3 good essays
3 LOR
And a good resume (Head editor of video news show in high school, work at Bestbuy in camera department, Eagle Scout)
Did anyone get a decision today?? :\
@2020UT You look like you have a good shot according to my list. @yungchildish I’d hope you’d be fine with a 3.875 trying to get into philosophy. If you don’t get in then I’m nervous about my chances of getting into government despite my high gpa.
@krisstory99 I feel confident based on the stats of those in this thread admitted to COLA, but I won’t feel safe until I see that “Congratulations!” on MyStatus hahahaha
@joeun2020 I got nothing, seems like McCombs and COLA are taking their time
