2016 Acceptances

@juliekane It was marked at 11/23, so it should’ve came in about a week later! good luck!

It says my application date was 11/18 and I submitted my short questions 12/17. How long will it take to receive my decision??

@lexington3, You should hear back soon. The holidays and winter break slowed down the Admissions Committee a bit, but we are back in full swing and the Committee is working hard to process everyone efficiently.

Best of luck,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer

@hailtopitt1787 today marks 6 weeks since my application has been deemed complete. I know the recent winter recess affects decision notifications, but any relative idea as to how much longer I should expect to wait? By the end of January the latest, yes?

@bigtenhopeful34, I can’t give you an exact date, but I would guess that you should hear back fairly soon. Thanks for your patience! If you don’t hear back by the end of January, feel free to call our office and one of our admissions processors can assist you: 412-624-7488.

Finally accepted! Applied 11/27 to the Business school. 2200 Sat 33 Act. 3.5 GPA UW, 3.8 W. Good luck to all who have not heard back yet

S was accepted on Dec 21, $10k scholarship a week or two later, and today received a letter that says “I would like to encourage you to consider the opportunities available to you in the University Honors College.” Ok, nice, but what does that mean?? I’ve read about the Honors College, so I think I understand what it is (and isn’t), but this language is still not clear. Is ‘considering opportunities’ different from being eligible? Anyone else get this also? Especially strange since I had called the admissions office after receiving acceptance to ask if honors letter might come later and was told no, it would have been in acceptance letter! Thanks

Hi, I had a question about the Guaranteed Admission Program’s Why Medicine essay. It says in the FAQ that it should be 600-700 characters but it also says around 1 page. I was thinking that 1 page would mean 600-700 words. Anybody else noticed this? How should I proceed?

Is anyone else sincerely frustrated that they applied very early but have yet to hear anything about scholarships? I understand that the committee only meets weekly and that answers will be coming up until March, but it sort of defeats the “rolling” process if a student who applies in September doesn’t hear about a scholarship until March while one who applied in November hears within a week of an acceptance. This is not directed at anyone, just me venting my annoyance.

@mannysidz
Based on the info scholarship recipients on CC have posted, it seems like the most competitive students with outstanding stats find out about scholarships sooner. I imagine most go through a few rounds of review as has been previously stated here. I agree that it would be nice to get the info up front like some other schools.

@mannysidz - My D and I are similarly frustrated. She is in-state with a 34 ACT (superscore), 33 one sitting, 4.2 W, 4.0 UW, #2 in her class, tons of ECs and leadership positions. She applied in early Sept and was accepted in late Sept. Based on the other posts, I do not believe that a letter is coming. She has full tuition scholarships from Temple and Univ of Alabama and was just accepted to Ga Tech. I did assume that Pitt would want to compete and, before the scholarship wait, it was her top choice – no longer.

@adit98, I just clarified with the School of Medicine. It is characters, not words. Good luck on your application!

@hailtopitt1787 I received a message saying that the admissions committee is awaiting a decision and going to review my profile again once I submit updated SAT scores… Is that a bad sign that they want higher scores or is it mandatory to send. Also, am I now “put at the end of the pile” because I sent them or will I hear back relatively quick?

@jackieelo, I don’t believe they will put you at the end of the line. You should hear back fairly quickly after you send the scores. If the Committee is asking for updated scores it should be because you indicated you were planning on taking another SAT when you submitted your application. After reviewing your application, they must have decided it would be necessary for them to see those new scores before making a final decision. If you changed your mind and didn’t take the SAT again, please call our office and let us know: 412-624-7488.

Does that help clarify things?

got accepted in Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences for computer science!
GPA 3.5
SATs 1890
I didn’t have the highest stats & I got in so it’s worth the try!
GOODLUCK

@PhilaSkiMom her stats look very similar to mine! Almost identical. I don’t think that we are completely out of the running, I just don’t think the wait is fair. Pitt is also my first choice but it’s completely dependent on how much money I earn/receive. I believe if you don’t receive anything or not up to your standards, you can appeal the decision using the scholarships you have already received.

My S received the acceptance email last Tuesday but hasn’t gotten the packet in the mail yet. He applied to Business. is it possible that he would be accepted to Pitt but NOT to the business school? Hoping to find out soon so we can arrange to visit on the Business school Open house date in February, but if he’s not accepted to business we will likely pass.

@2asmom, If your son received an acceptance email, then he was admitted into the school he applied to, so the Business School. Congrats to him!

Thanks @hailtopitt1787 . Very excited. Looking forward to making plans for our visit.

My D was admitted to Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences as well as an invite to explore their Honors College. A letter she received stated that she would be getting more information but all she has received was a letter to look at the Honors college online. How long does a financial letter take to receive? I’ve submitted Fafsa already.
