From what I understand only about 10 get GAP, and several end up losing it because it is not easy to maintain a 3.75 GPA as a premed.
By the way, I got a letter from Pitt today that invited me to the Honors College. Does this mean that there are any applications I need to fill out (i.e. for scholarships offered by the Honors College)? Or does this mean that I’m no longer eligible for any scholarships and that the university has chosen not to give me any?
Thanks!
Accepted!
Major: Computer Science
App submitted 1/8
Short answers submitted 1/10

GPA: 3.68 W (No class rank)
ECs- ok. I had like 6 clubs no leadership positions
Essay- Pretty good.
Very excited. I was worried that applying pretty late would mess me up because Pitt is rolling but apparently I was fine. We’ll see about scholarships though. Hope this helped someone else with high test grades but a low gpa who was worried.
Good luck everyone!
@luciagrande, You do not need to apply for the University Honors College. The letter should be informing you that you are eligible to enroll in honors courses. The Scholarship selection process is entirely separate. The Scholarship Committee sends out award letters weekly through March 1st, so you may still hear from them. Any student who applied to Pitt before Jan 15 is automatically reviewed for scholarships. You would be notified if there is any other application you need to fill out, but that is only for a very select number of scholarships. Thanks for your patience! If you have been selected to receive a Pitt scholarship, you should hear from us fairly soon.

@hailtopitt1787, Hello, regarding the DIVERSITY scholarships, are there any minimum requirements? Meaning must a candidate have a minimum GPA and or SAT score in order to qualify for such a scholarship?
@jules821, The general requirements for scholarships are posted on our site here: https://oafa.pitt.edu/learn-about-aid/academic-scholarships/. They are as follows:
"Criteria for scholarship consideration include SAT/ACT results, overall grade point average, class rank (if applicable) and strength of curriculum. Activities outside of the classroom such as leadership positions, athletics, community service, etc. are reviewed but given secondary consideration.
In recent years, scholarship eligible students possessed ALL of the following:
minimum SAT score of 1450 (math and critical reading scores only) or 33 ACT (Math and English subscores average)
overall ‘A’ average
top 5% class rank (if applicable) while participating in challenging high school curriculums consisting of AP/IB/Honors courses
record of excellence in various academic and nonacademic activities outside of the classroom"
The Scholarship Committee has not informed me of any deviation from these guidelines for diversity scholarship consideration. You can see the full info on diversity scholarships here: https://oafa.pitt.edu/learn-about-aid/academic-scholarships/diversity-scholarships/
I hope that helps!

@luciagrande Yeah it’s really confusing and I’m glad to know I’m not the only one wondering about it. I might call them, but it might not be worth it at this point.
@pitt2021 Not available from my school, so I assume it wasn’t a factor considered.
@mommdc I might call them; I just wanted to know if this had occurred to anybody except me.
@hailtopitt1787 My D received a “Don’t Forget! Come See Pitt on a Day for Admitted Students!” email from oafa@pitt.edu with a link saying “Congratulations on Being Admitted to One of the Top 100 Universities in the World” and an interactive schedule of Dates for Admitted Students. But she has yet to receive any other notification. Is this an acceptance or is one on its way?
@RitzyFritz, I am sorry for the confusion! That email itself is not an acceptance, no. It would be best to give our office a call and they can take a look at your daughter’s account and assist you: 412-624-7488.

@hailtopitt1787 She got the “You’re Accepted” video link about a half hour ago! Thanks for your feedback.

Hi @hailtopitt1787 …trying to estimate when we’ll hear back. Applied on 1/13, SAT scores were confirmed as received on 1/22. From previous posts it looks like applications get turned around pretty quickly. Thanks in advance!
@kimba3842, You should hear back in the next few weeks, I would guess. Thanks for your patience. Best of luck!

Thanks @hailtopitt1787 ! One more question - I saw in a previous post that all students who applied by Jan. 15 are considered for scholarships. Did we miss the boat?
@kimba3842, While any student who applies after Jan 15 will not be automatically considered for scholarships, exceptional candidates may still be reviewed. Hope that helps!

Got it. The application date is Jan. 13 so we hope to be considered. Thanks again.
@kimba3842, Yep! If you submitted the online application before Jan 15th, your application will automatically be reviewed for scholarships.

Got accepted today! How do I know if I got into the Honors College? They sent me another email saying I was invited to the Honors Day, does that mean anything?
