Got deferred. I applied to School of Nursing in late September.
SAT: Math-650 Reading-620 Writing-560
GPA: 3.88/4 unweighted
Class rank: 4/179 in a very underfunded Philadelphia public school (we don’t even have textbooks for some AP classes)
2 AP junior year: English Language & European History
4 AP senior year: Biology, Statistics, Literature, and Government
I had all A’s Junior year.
I’m not sure what I should do. They asked for mid-year senior grades and SAT scores. But, I don’t think my reading or math SAT will go up much, if any. I already used my fee waivers and I’ll have to pay for a test with money my family doesn’t really have. Does anyone think I’ll still have a good shot at getting in if I keep my grades at A’s?
@kristenxxxx, It seems that Pitt is interesting in your application for Pitt Nurse School which is top 5 in the Nation. Unfortunately, your current stat are not well qualified for the prestigious program. If you can keep (better to move up) your current rank (4/179) in your class, retake SAT I (>2100) or take ACT (~33) for a reasonable good score for Pitt Nurse School, and submit nice essays (short answers). I believe you will have a chance. If the fee for retake SAT I or ACT is a problem for you and you do not mind, I would like to pay the fee for one of those tests. Otherwise, you might be better to try Pitt Johnstown Nurse program. Anyway, GL
Hi, my application was marked complete on 9/12. I still haven’t heard anything, but I called about a month ago and the admissions officer said everything was in and fine. I just checked the status myself and it’s still marked complete. Is this normal? Thanks!
@kristenxxxx, Please feel free to contact our office if you have questions about the mid-year grades request: 412-624-7488 or oafa@pitt.edu.
@ametrine, If the processor said all was fine with your application you should be fine and you should hear back soon. There will be no decision announced in my.pitt.edu. You will hear the decision via mail or email.
Best of luck to you both!

@hailtopitt1787 Since essays are used for scholarship consideration, do you guys review the essays right away and then give scholarships until they “run out”? Or are all students given an equal chance and everyone gets to know about scholarships on the same day? Also, my app was deemed complete on October 21 but I still haven’t received any information?
We review admitted students for scholarships on a rolling basis and notify those who are selected as decisions are made. The Scholarship Committee meets weekly. Any student that applies before January 15 will automatically be reversed for scholarships. Some students hear back very shortly after they are admitted, but many students go through more than one review for scholarships. Bottom line, everyone who is selected for a scholarship should hear back by March 1.
As for your application, if everything is complete you shouldn’t have to worry. I am guessing you should hear back fairly soon.
@classof2020ny, Students are notified of their admissions decision via letter or email. We do not use my.pitt.edu to notify anyone of an admissions decision.
@hailtopitt1787 I got the #pittcomingsoon email, clicked the link and got a video. What does that mean to you and anyone else here!?!?!?!?!?! I don’t want to say anything, I want you guys to try and infer!
My D received an email from Pitt Admissions this afternoon that says “Happy Thanksgiving!!!” in subject line but is blank inside other than the standard footer. She’s been on pins & needles for over 4 weeks since “application complete” waiting for a decision, so we don’t really know what to make of it. I’m assuming it’s really just a holiday promo but thought I’d double-check - @hailtopitt1787 ?
@balaur I got the same email today as well. I just actually got the email with the acceptance video and am awaiting the arrival of the letter. I hope your daughter gets in as well. I still have other schools I’m in the process of applying to, but Pitt was my number one choice. Once again, I wish your daughter well wishes!
