if you go with a wide runner like in the link in post #337 and your tables are that narrow you will barely see the cloth. I was lucky when I did an event I had a friend who entertains on a large scale and I was able to borrow all the linens, runners and even cloth napkins.
Napkins wrapped with a piece of twine goes well with the burlap. A stem of Rosemary or lavender completes the look.
Navy print bandanas tied with twine in place of napkins? You can often get them for a $1 each.
I’m looking at 12 inch burlap - should be no problem and will leave enough table exposed.
I read on one of the websites that burlap has a distinct smell (I guess like hay?) and the vendor was warning customers to expect that.
I looked on the website suggested a few posts above for table runners and they just don’t have the colors/fabrics that I need. I found exactly what I wanted on another site but the reviews were simply terrible.
Son’s wedding is exactly two months away.
My daughter’s wedding is in August. She is marrying her high school sweetheart…they stuck it out through college…who would have guessed! The best thing I have done so far is higher a wedding coordinator so I can keep my opinions to myself. Not always easy for me when it comes to my kids! [= We have the venue, musicians, DJ, florist, transportation, photographer, videographer all off the checklist and just picked up the dress yesterday. It is beautiful and she seems thrilled with it.
I do find that social media and pinterest are putting some pressure on the bride and she feels like it has to be just so. I keep telling her that if you just do what you love that you will have the perfect wedding for you. She needs to stop looking at all the amazing wedding blogs!
Anyway, my D would like to do a sparkler exit. Does anyone have a recommendation on a website where we can purchase the sparklers? I have yet to talk to anyone who can give me a first hand recommendation. Thanks!
@abasket… a friend of mine used this site last year and her comment was that the colors were vibrant and they wash up really well…would assume white would be the same…she got rounds and rectangles…good luck!

@missypie Not sure what colors you are looking for but how about looking at some coarse linens as a substitute for burlap to avoid the burlap smell and also the shedding that burlap tends to do.
Here’s one idea I found online; http://www.freckledlaundry.com/2013/07/jute-burlap-substitute.html
gosmom, that is the site that has terrible reviews. (Sounds like your friend was fortunate!)
Thanks for the info about the jute burlap. I actually think now that I want a champagne color but not taffeta or anything shiny.
@southerncalimom , our experiences with one sparkler exit and one sparkler exit-to-be were that the venues have extensive regulations about them - who’s in charge, the exact size of acceptable sparklers and location of the send-off, weather conditions under which they’ll be refused, etc. I was impressed at one venue that they took the thing very seriously. It was a fun ending to the day and the photos were great.
Does your wedding coordinator have a recommendation for where you can find sparklers?
I actually just found a wedding linens web site that has a brick and mortar location in my city. I’ll report back on the quality after I visit.
@missypie …this friend is a stickler…if she was not happy, the tablecloths would have been sent back pronto–and she would have gotten different ones, even if she had to pay retail. And she would NOT be passing around link to pals if she had issues…
I hear ya. On the review sites, there are a few good reviews but the majority are terrible. They have an F from the Better Business Bureau. But I also know that dissatisfied customers are a lot more likely to write online reviews than happy ones, so they are probably not as bad as the reviews indicate.
At any rate, I am glad to have found a place to see the product in person, mostly from the standpoint of color. I know that in my online search for a MOG dress, the colors shown online (esp. with Adrianna Papel products) have been way way off. A delightful mint online shows up as moss.
Thank you for the response @frazzled1 . [= Our venue does sparkler exits at practically every wedding, but all they told us was that the brides supply the sparklers then they are happy to coordinate the event. They didn’t have any recommendations…sigh. Our coordinator could look into it, but every little thing costs money so I was hoping to maybe do this one without her assistance. Would love to order them myself and not risk a mark up!
The longer the sparklers, the longer the burn. Make sure the photographer coordinates the lighting of the sparklers and has worked with shooting photos with sparklers. I think some sparklers burn more blue versus yellow and may affect the photos.
Most of the weddings we have attended recently have had the guests blowing bubbles at the newlyweds. Have never seen sparkler exit–that sounds like it could be tougher on folks with lung conditions and potential burn hazard.
The sparklers are for adding to drama at night. Hard to see bubbles at night although I do like that during the day.
Yea, most of the weddings I’ve attended are day or afternoon and evening receptions. The photos of sparklers for wedding exit are pretty. I’ve always found them very smoky and know a lot of asthmatics, so I’d be nervous about them.
Dang–now I had ads for wedding sparklers. Oh well, at least they’re pretty.
One of my friend’s daughter got severely burned by sparklers at a wedding send off. By then a few guests were more than inebriated and thought it would be fun to light a bucket of them. I was at a sparkler send off even before this happened, and seeing how close the Sparks came to clothes and long hair made me extremely nervous.
I know my D’s friends and my relatives. I don’t trust any of them with a lit match. Let alone a sparkler.
Yes, the harm to people and clothing and hair from spilled bubbles is much less than a match or lit sparkler. I’m always nervous around flames and sparklers and fireworks. Add alcohol, youth, and nerves and there are some scary possibilities.
