2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 2)

My friend had a sheet cake at the brunch the day after the wedding. I think some people have the groom’s cake at that (very common to have a brunch at the bride’s parents’ home the day after the wedding) with a theme that means something to the groom, but in my friend’s case I think it was just a cake with flowers and swirly things. I do remember it was delicious but there were some pretty good cooks/bakers in my hometown.

I just don’t understand the grooms cake. Not against it, but why? Isn’t the bridal cake for the couple? It’s not the brides cake!!!

Sometimes it is served at the rehearsal dinner, or as I said above at the brunch the day after the wedding.

The wedding cake usually has flowers and is the colors of the wedding (or white). the groom’s cake was traditionally ‘themed’ like golfing or bowling or something that the groom enjoys as a sport or hobby, or with his favorite teams.

Or as in Steele Magnolias, as an armadillo.

It’s a way to highlight the groom’s personality and usually is a different flavor from the wedding cake so gives guests options.

The groom’s cakes that I’ve seen (including my son-in-law’s) were at the rehearsal dinner, not the wedding. I don’t think my son-in-law cared either way but it’s something his mom was adamant about doing for each of her son’s weddings.

Youngest son has bought a ring and I am pretty sure is getting engaged this weekend. Apparently wedding will be next summer (August).

We’re in the middle of hell week, with #1D getting married tomorrow and the reception/party on Saturday.

The deck and yard are complete, H did a remarkable job. There was one hiccup with the fertilizer/seed he used which apparently tries to kill off certain grass types. It’s mostly recovered, but that is marked off of the approved list of lawn care items.

We pick up flowers tomorrow morning, then “relax” until the ceremony in the afternoon. Just the immediate family for that. Dinner out in the evening.

I have a minor procedure to take care of some dead skin on Thursday morning, but otherwise I don’t see any other issues resulting from my surgery. I am indeed flat as a pancake as the PS hasn’t been able to expand me. I may use a couple of forms or not. We’ll see how the dress looks.

So much to do Thursday and Friday and Saturday morning. Tables and dishware are delivered Friday pm and D and FSIL have friends coming to help set up.

Good weather forecast, sun and mid-70s, can’t ask for much better. Fingers crossed that it all goes well.

Just to clarify, as @thumper and @happy1 families did, my son and his wife also paid more for the rights to their pictures. He said it was more expensive that way, but felt it was worth it to own the pictures and do what they want with them. So, as noted, check your contract.

Enjoy the wedding, @zeebamom !

The ceremony on Wednesday went off without a problem. We gave our SIL my husband’s uncle’s ring - a nice connection of past to present.

Today is set up day. A group of their friends are over to do flowers and decor.
I’m exhausted and resting on the deck.

We are approaching mile 21… if you know what I mean. A case of Rombauer Zin made it down the Alaska baggage claim chute just fine despite losing the luggage tag. :sunglasses: My kudos to Alaska Air!!! Dishes are washed, flowers have been ordered. Picking up the dress tonight. :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers: My dress will be ready the day before the wedding. I trust the alterations person that it will be perfect (if anyone needs a referral in the greater Seattle area, PM me). Mr. B was supposed to get his haircut today… oops. He did not complete the online reservation properly because he got distracted by work slack S-show. Thank dogs the salon had another opening later in the month!!! I’m now worried that might look like an army conscript… but oh well. I hate his haircuts for the first couple of weeks. Maybe I will go with him and persuade the stylist to have mercy and not to cut it too short. The venue peeps are driving me bananas in the meantime…

@BunsenBurner Sounds like it’s coming together. Lucky no one made off with the wine. My venue peeps are driving me nuts, too :joy::joy:

We’re now focused on the possibility of drizzle very early in the a.m. We ordered plastic-top tables, but they delivered wood tops. Besides being very heavy, if they get damp it could mess with the linens. Arrrgh.

We celebrated tonight’s end of tasks with pizza made in my BD present - an Ooni oven. Best thing ever.

Did I say I was exhausted? Haha

Can you cover the tables with some type of plastic until the weather blows over? Hope you have a wonderful time!
