D’s wedding celebration was also smaller than we initially planned (some people weren’t comfortable coming and/or traveling and we did cut out some of our friends who really didn’t know the kids in order to keep the reception room less crowded). BUT the kids were thrilled to have a fairly typical wedding celebration a year after their micro-wedding. I was proud of the way they adjusted plans as needed and focused on the positives!
Yes, there are new episodes of Say Yes. There were some during covid (everyone wearing masks) but there have been some since with fewer masked people. I’m not sure exactly when they air as I usually find them when I am channel surfing at 5 am.
D1 got married pre Covid, so she could have had as many people as possible for the “say yes to the dress” experience, but she only asked her sister myself to come along. We went to three places, 2 were boutiques and one was a well known department store. She ended up buying 2 dresses, one from each boutique store in NYC. She wore one for the welcome party and The One for the wedding. I was skeptical of the very body hugging revealing wedding dress, but when they put on a long puff train over the dress I knew that was it.
I asked D1 if she wanted to include more people. She said, “less was more.” She did ask her dad to go with her for a fitting. Everyone else saw the dress for the first time at the wedding.
D1 also had a traditional Chinese Qipao made in Taiwan for the tea ceremony. The master told D1 not to gain any weight because he would too far away to do any alterations.
My daughter got her dress before the shutdown and even then could only have a max of 3 people other than herself (me, MOG & MOH). Maybe because it was a smaller boutique and wouldn’t have been able to handle a big entourage.
D1 is planning to look for her wedding dress after the new year when her future MIL will be visiting. Since her future MIL only has two sons D1 wants to include her when she looks for a dress. D2 and myself will be the only other ones coming to shop for the dress.
@showmom858 We went to the BHLDN in Carlsbad when D1 was looking. She also made appointments at two other shops in Carlsbad. (Future MIL lived down south) She ended up getting a sample dress from a shop in downtown Carlsbad. She had a great salesperson who helped her. They had a lot of dresses in different styles and prices. The dress my daughter got had no beading. We also went to a 2nd shop which was upstairs in a building near Legoland. They had beautiful dresses, more expensive and a more hip vibe. My daughter also found a dress she loved but the salesperson made a mistake on the price and it was a lot above the budget.
I can get the names of the shops or you might already know them.
On reading the article - how manipulative that groom’s mother was!! Hopefully the couple lives a good distance away, and the pictures they make can have the photo studio ‘color correct’ the parents of the groom. The bride was right to go to other opinions outside of her circle on this - and it seems she refused to let that situation cloud the day and celebration!
Just want to say that after a 14 month engagement, my D is getting married in 3 days. I can’t believe it. This is finally real. And I still don’t have shoes, lol. Procrastination as usual. If you live in the Dallas area and observe a woman frantically scraping a pair of heels on her driveway to “break them in” Friday afternoon, that’s probably me.
(This shoe addict just grabbed a pair of closed toe slingbacks out of her closet because a bruised toe happened at the last minute and would not have looked good in the pretty pair of sandals that was supposed to be worn )
