@JezRey15 You and I are on the same boat. I too was denied from SDSU, I sent in my appeal last week. CSUSM was my safety school, I thought I was an automatic in since I did the majority of my coursework work at MiraCosta. So, I get the anxiety. I haven’t been accepted to any schools yet, the UC’s take forever!
If you don’t mind me asking, what is your emphasis in? And what part of north county? I am just curious and trying to figure out when my decision could possibly be sent out. My emphasis is in pre physical therapy.
@cooptwo5 I applied as a psychology major, and I attend MiraCosta. I haven’t heard a response either
@bonjouruc2016 Dang, I check my status so frequently because I’m just so anxious to have an answer. I attend Grossmont/Cuyamaca.
Major - Pre-kinesiology
Location - Grossmont College
GPA - 2.97; should bump up by the end of this semester
AA/AS-T? - Math, Natural, and Computer Science (AS) at end of this spring
TAG? No
Other Schools Applied to: SDSU (denied)
@mysskye Congratulations on your admission! If I may ask, did you complete all of the major prep coursework? If not, which courses did you have left? I’m trying to figure out my standings, as I am still waiting for a decision.
@cooptwo5 I was also denied admission at SDSU.
3.47 gpa. Prereq’s complete. Receiving AAT in May. I wonder why we haven’t heard. I thought students who attend their local area have priority?
This waiting is so distracting.
@bonjouruc2016 I have spoke and kept in touch with a lady who works with recruitment. I believe the schools that are considered local to them are Mt San Jacinto, MiraCosta, and Palomar.
@JezRey15 @leilanifaith I noticed you both are from the grossmont cuyamaca district as well. Have you guys received an answer from csusm yet?
Just got an email at 4pm, accepted
@cooptwo5 I just got denied :(( I don’t know why they are saying that they had to consider local students first if I am taking a class at Palomar College as my counselor recommended me to do in order to be considered local for CSUSM. I even called them several times and asked them if I was considered local for them and they always said ‘yes’ One of them even said 'yes you are consider local and as long as you have a 2.0 or higher and all your golden four completed then you don’t have to worry about admission too much" I don’t know what to do now. I will call tomorrow and asked them why in their email they are telling me that I am not local and that’s why they denied admission when my counselor and even people working at their admissions and records office say the opposite. I am so sad, mad and disappointed right now. What do you guys think I should do?
By the way congratulations @bonjouruc2016
Congratulations @bonjouruc2016 . @JezRey15 I got denied as well I also spoke with a representative from csusm and was recommended to take a class at Palomar college too. I ended up not doing it, but she made it seem like I had a really good chance of getting in. I have about 3 classes that I still need to complete for my major prep and my gpa could use a boost, but that’s the only reason I can see why I got denied. I feel your pain, maybe you can call there admissions office to ask for a reason. Ask what you mentioned above. And if they don’t have any answer still, then I guess the best you can do is send in an appeal. I’m going to be doing the same.
@cooptwo5 Yes, I will definitely call tomorrow early morning. I got denied around 4:30 today and I was in class so I couldn’t call them, but for sure I will call and ask why they denied admissions with the excuse of non local when in fact I am a local student. I’ve heard that starting next year they will require students to take 12 units or more at Palomar or Mira Costa in order to be consider local, but that’s starting next year. I don’t think they will change their mind by talking with them over the phone though; I’m pretty sure I will have to appeal but I will give it a try.
Do you know by any chance what happens if I accept admission from Dominguez Hills and then SDSU or CSUSM ends up accepting my appeal and I decide to attend SDSU or CSUSM? I mean, does that look bad or how much time do I have in order to say pretty much ‘never mind’ ?
@cooptwo5 Thank you! I’m currently taking KINE 204 and have yet to take physio. Other than that I’ve completed everything (except KINE 200&201 of course).
ETA I just saw that you got denied good luck with your appeal!
I also received my financial aid award today!
I was denied as well for not being local area. I have 28 units or so from Palomar a few years back but not currently taking a class there. I was going to SDSU anyway but kind of wanted to compare financial aid etc just in case. They’re both equal distance from our house but the way to SDSU is faster probably. Oh well.
@cooptwo5 @JezRey15 thank you, and Im sorry for the bad news I think appealing is your best bet.
@JezRey15 how many units are you currently taking at Palomar? My counselor said there was a minimum amount of units you have to take your last semester before transferring in order to be considered a local. I would explain in your appeal all the misinformation.
Good luck!
@bonjouruc2016 I am only taking three units, but that was what I was told by my counselor. Like I said in the other comment, even the people at the admissions office told me that I was considered local, so that is kind of weird. I wouldn’t be surprise if their reason was low GPA or maybe not having a course that they require for admissions, but being denied because I was not local it really gets me confuse. If its true what you say about the certain units to be consider local then I’ll be really upset with my counselor because I don’t really need this Palomar class and I could be using the time that I spend on that class to study for Bio and Econ that is what I really need and which are really difficult classes in my opinion.
I’ll call tomorrow and see what they say. Congrats again and good luck!!
=D>
@ninlisteninglove I’ve heard you have to take at least one transferable course in your last semester at Palomar or Mira Costa to be consider local. Good thing you have been admitted to SDSU, congratulations! and good luck with your education.
@mysskye The only classes I have to take is physics 1 & 2, and gen chem. I thought I had a pretty good shot at getting accepted though.
