2016 EA Decisions

Accepted with a 22,000 Deans Scholarship
ACT: 31
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.4 W
Rank: 10/800
Tons of extra curricular activities, leadership roles, volunteer hours, AP classes, and even a foreign exchange student experience

@freezycool, seems like you and my son have applied and been admitted to some of the same schools: Minnesota, Ohio State, Tulane and now SMU.

Congrats on your scholarship award! You should also run SMU’s net price calculator to see if you might qualify for some institutional need-based grant aid which may make SMU even more affordable for you. Good luck with your college search process.

29 ACT
3.8 UW GPA
Lots of EC’s, leadership, volunteer work, varsity sports, etc.

Very happy for her because of all the hard work she has put in to get to this point, yet somewhat disappointed in SMU given the responses she’s received from other schools. Congrats to all!

Strengths: Extracurriculars, ACT, volunteer hours, and leadership
Weaknesses: SAT, and AP chem score

General Comments: I haven’t gotten my letter in the mail yet, but I can’t wait to get it! Hopefully it’s a personalized letter.

@fatherof2boys Congrats to your son! We both have pretty neat places to choose from. I’m probably going to end up chosing between SMU and Minnesota, unless OSU offers me Morrill (which I doubt will happen, but a girl can dream, right?). Is your son considering applying to the Hunt Leadership Scholars program by chance?

@BoBandall I think being on CC, most of us “average” income folks have become pretty desensitized to those high incomes lol. Your online letter- in the portal- which shows up as an update posted on 12/11, will be the personalized one. Now, if they end up personalizing the actual letter too, I’m going to be even more impressed!

Does anyone know if the PS is still a potential availability for someone who got the Second Century Scholarship?

@freezycool I checked my online letter again, and found the personalized part. They complimented me on my essay. it seems I was right that it was a strong paper!

i received my acceptance yesterday but no mention of merit :// ? I have very good stats so i am shocked! is there something that might come with my letter?

Reflection

Strengths: High SAT, Solid Essays
Weaknesses: Had one poor semester Freshman. year, but no glaring weaknesses.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:

General Comments: Really happy to have gotten in here with a Dean’s Scholarship ($22,500 each year), as this likely wouldn’t be a viable option without it. Lived in Irving (~15 minutes away) for 4 years growing up so I’m familiar with the area and like it a lot. I visited the campus last winter and it was gorgeous + I could wear shorts in February! I’ve so far gotten into Ohio State, IU, and Tulane with decent merit awards, but SMU is definitely going to be among my Top 3 or so of places to attend.

Reflection

Strengths: I balances school’s rigorous curriculum with all my other activities. I am a busy person and i think the game changer for me was my essay and/or how my grades shot up dramatically from freshman to junior year
Weaknesses: Grades werent CRAZY high and i did not have very high act score (YET i took it again this weekend)
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:
I showed that i have the will to get things done and i can manage time very well for my age. i still was so shocked/excited i got accepted i was dancing all around at my job (where i found out lol).

Hello I was wondering how you all received your responses as the website says they will not be posted until dec 31 st?

We received ours online 12/11 and a packet/letter as a follow-up in the mail. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I got more scholarships from COE! :)>-

Congrats @fhczsuntao! Has anyone else received any addiotional scholarship notices since the Dec 11 acceptance/scholarship notification?

Got an extra 9k from Lyle a while ago @Musicschool2016 , don’t know if any of the other schools have given anything. Hope I’ve helped

S received official mail yesterday awarding a $5K scholarship for graduating with full IB. That’s in addition to the initial Deans of $22500 plus $7500 for BBA Scholars. I could be off on those numbers slightly, as I am going from memory – but I know the total is $35,000. He was invited to apply for the Hunt also, and did, so I’m hoping the ball keeps rolling.

Does anyone know how President’s works, when they notify, interview etc.? If he’s heard nothing about that one, is it safe to assume he won’t?
