As a courtesy to future applicants, I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to compiling all of the UC transfer admission decisions this year (I would have loved such a resource. It beats scrolling through hundreds of pages from threads of years past). I’m making it now as opposed to after all decisions are released because some people didn’t apply to every school and therefore some people may have already received all of their decisions. People tend to fall off the face of the earth after admission decisions, so hopefully they visit this thread and share their results before doing so!
I would advise regular discussion to take place in the school-specific decision threads, in addition to other miscellaneous threads.
Extracurriculars: Worked part-time (about 20 hours a week) every semester, volunteered at a battered women’s shelter every summer
State: California
Schools applied to: UCSC, UCR, SFSU, CSUSM
Accepted: UCSC, UCR, SFSU, CSUSM
Waitlisted: none
Rejected: none
I think this is a great idea, as you said, it’s much easier than scrolling through a bunch of different threads!
*This should go without saying, but I’d recommend that future TAG applicants really read their contracts closely. Mine was approved in November but a class that I had listed as “planned” for spring didn’t work with my schedule, so I chose a different one. It wasn’t a major prerequisite, but that one small change still voided my TAG for UCSC. Same thing happened to a friend of mine, but he wasn’t as lucky and Santa Cruz rejected him.
UC GPA: 3.3
Major Pre-reqs Completed (Y/N): With the exception of calculus for several UCs. It will be done in the summer.
Intended Major: Psychology
TAG?: UCSC. Denied.
IGETC?: Yes
TAP? (If applicable): No
Extracurriculars (clubs, leadership, volunteer, work): President of Phi Theta Kappa, President of Alpha Gamma Sigma, Student Ambassador at my CC, intern at a psychology company, and former English tutor.
Additional Details: I’m a returning student after having not been in school for awhile time. My transcript starts off with 3 pages of W’s and F’s before it starts to get good. I graduated high school in 2007 and failed repeatedly at attending school for 7 years after that. It’s a nice upward trend, but I had a downward trend last semester that was due to me taking too many units at once. It looks really bad, imo. I got two As, two Bs, and two Cs. Didn’t have any Cs on my transcript before then.
State (if domestic applicant): California
Country (if international applicant): U.S.
Schools applied to: Fresno State, CSU Monterey Bay, San Francisco State, San Diego State, UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Berkeley.
Accepted: Fresno State, CSU Monterey Bay, San Francisco State, CSU Channel Islands (SDSU redirect), UC Irvine, and UC Santa Barbara.
Waitlisted: None
Rejected: UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkeley, and San Diego State.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected (strengths/weaknesses): For UCSC, I was rejected because one of the Cs I got last semester was in statistics. SC doesn’t accept psychology students with a C in that class. I was rejected from SDSU because I was an out-of-area applicant with a 3.6 CSU GPA. It wasn’t high enough to break out of the out-of-area-auto-reject pile. For Berkeley, I believe I was rejected because my application was a hot mess. My personal statement was stellar, but the rest of my application looked awful. I’m hoping to be able to attend Berkeley later in life, maybe to get my masters in clinical psychology, but who knows. I already SIR’d to UCSB, and I’m super excited to go there!
@100789 I am a fellow psych major here; I commend you for not giving up on UCB. However, UCSB is an incredible institution especially for psychology. Additionally, if you were ever to consider neuroscience emphasis as your psych major, UCSB is where its at. You can always shoot for Berkeley for your graduate school. I wil be applying to UCSB and UCB this fall in the hopes that I get into (hopefully) both, but am just shooting for one.
