There are also productions through the Performing Arts Company (student-run), at least one per semester (not sure of which shows yet).

Are you a student at Fredonia?

@techmom99 I’m the parent of a student.

@lovetoact -

Me. too, of an incoming freshman. Does your child like the school? Is s/he an acting major? Mine is a techie, hence my user name.

@techmom99 I’m sorry I just saw this! Yes, my son is starting his second year on Monday (BFA Acting) and he LOVES it! I hope yours falls in love with it too!

@lovetoact -

So far, so good. Two of his older brothers and a friend dropped him off this morning. He’s excited and scared but looking forward to the first departmental meeting. Good luck to your son. Hope he enjoys his second year as much as his first, if not more.

Let me know if you’ll be there to see any of the shows he’s teching. I’ll be there for parents’ weekend and Much Ado in December. Maybe we could grab a cup of coffee at Tim Hortons!

@lovetoact -

I’ll be there for parents’ weekend as well and will be seeing Peter and the Starcatcher, on which he has a minor tech assignment. I would love to meet for coffee at Tim Horton’s. We’ll “talk” closer to the date.

@techmom99 I’d love to–see you there!

@lovetoact My S just got accepted to Fredonia BFA Acting…he auditioned for MT. Would love to get your perspective on his options within the Acting track!

@#booknerdmom do you have specific questions? My son loves his experience there! As far as performance opportunities, there are two mainstage shows each semester. When they arrive at the end of August, auditions are right away for the entire year. All BFA Acting and MTs are required to audition for those shows and required to play as cast. He’s been in two of those. Semesters when they’re not cast in a show, they do a production experience (costumes, sets, etc…–my son is a dramaturg this semester for Spring Awakening). There’s also the PAC, which is the student-run performing arts club. They produce several shows a year and they also support student-initiated-individual productions. My son was just in one this weekend and was in one last spring as well.

They have a number of acapella groups, and also an improv group on campus. So many opportunities to be creative!

A sample of the BFA curriculum is available online—google ‘Fredonia BFA Acting Sample Degree Map’ to see what types of classes they take each semester.

Congratulations and let me know of any other questions you or your son have!
